Maybe it's just me, but my seat belt takes FOREVER to retract once I've unclicked it.

I've cleaned the gunk that has built up over the 2.5 years since it was bought (Odt EX 2001).

I have the Honda Care Extended Warranty, and am at 37000 miles.

Does anyone else have this problem, and will honda Care pick up the tab for fixing it?

Cheers

David

The bumper to bumper warranty will cover that. Is your Hondacare warranty bumper to bumper, or powertrain only?

I bought a 2000 Accord back in April, and I had the same thing. I had them replace the seat belt, and everything was fine.

Now I notice that my 2002 Odyssey is having the same problem. I'll have them replace that one, too.

Honda is slowly showing some decline in quality. Then there are the niggling little things--like why doesn't my $30K van have lights in the window switches....

Our $15k Civic has a lit up AUTO on the driver's side. Such is life, eh? :stupid:

I remember a TSB or something for the fifth gen Civics (92-95) about slow retractors. I have a '95 and they do take their time winding up. I cleaned the anchor up on the B pillar with no luck. I've just gotten used to it.

If it's a really irritating problem, David, the next step is to either have the retractor mechanism inspected or replaced (probably replaced).

I might be wrong, but I was under impression that the seat belts are covered for the life of the vehicle.

I got a Civic belt replaced at 140,000 no questions asked.
What sort of belt? One of the belts that drive the steering, a/c unit, etc? My Civic is pushing 147k and I don't know if the previous owner ever changed the timing belt. Of course, this is one of those standard maintenence things.

Odometer = 66,000 kms (41,000 miles). Finally got around to addressing the problem of the driver's side seat belt slow to retract. I let the Honda Dealer lube the retractor and clean the top loop. This did not work. Honda is replacing retractor and seat belt this week under Lifetime Warranty. Thanks again to OdyClub (especially egads who informed me of this warranty some time ago).

I just got off the phone with Honda Canada regarding warranty coverage for seat belts and they said 5 year 100,000 KM. My middle row seat belts, one won't doesn't work at all and the other is very slow. Has anyone had seat belts replaced after 100,000 KM under warranty?
Thanks

I'd chat with the guy at Honda again, as these should be warranted for life - imagine if there was ever a problem, and you had told Honda about it and they had done nothing (your attorney would love you)...that said, make sure that you have a service request from them.

I needed to edit my previous post on Seatbelt Warranty in Canada. The warranty period is as you say, 5 years and not Lifetime Warranty as is the case in the USA. I was under the 5 years when I received a new seatbelt assembly for the driver's side. It finally solved the problem of the slow retractor. The cost (not paid by me) was surprisingly around $200. Sorry for the bad news.

You can try to clean the top loop of the gunk that builds up and causes the seatbelt to retract slowly. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean the loop. The seatbelt should only be cleaned with soap and water.

I HAVE A 2001 LX WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. SLOW SEAT BELT RETRACTOR.

UNLESS I GUIDE THE SEAT BELT BACK VERY SLOWLY, IT FAILS TO RETRACT AND ENDS UP GETTING STUCK IN THE DOOR.

NEVER HEARD OF THIS LIFETIME WARRANTY. DOES IN APPLY TO HONDA DEALERS IN THE BAY AREA, CALIFORNIA?

MAY HAVE TO MAKE A TRIP TO MY LOCAL DEALER.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Honda seat belts in the United States are warranted for the life of the vehicle.

I have had my driver's seat belt cleaned and lubed for free at the dealer. For those of you in Canada out of warranty, they seemed to spray it with silicone. It had that Armor All slickness when I picked it up.

Oh, and all caps on an internet board is considered yelling. No need to yell, I can hear you. ;)

Wow, I thought it was just because I had the belt attached to the child seat for so long and that was why it was a little 'slow'

I'll try the silicone spray route first and see what happens.
