Wheel Studs Stripped

I had this happen by a local garage a few weeks ago. What a nightmare this project turned out to be. I had to remove the whole front spindle and in the process of getting the hub out of the spindle I smashed the wheel bearings. So, now, I am replacing the hub and wheel bearing all because a garage over-tightened the lug nuts. :nothappy:

So the latest update for my 12-27-2017 post . I checked all of the wheels and found more- 2 front and 1 rear. I went to Costco and the Tire Center Manager (not the previous one I dealt with t a few years ago) was very cooperative this time. He checked all of wheels and agreed to repair the stripped studs. I filled out a claim form for the stripped studs. He referred me to a local independent shop who Costco had an account with. He recommendrf replace all of lug nuts on the good studs at $ . 75 each , which was probably not bad idea even though not the cause of the problem. Anyway, it was only $15.00 for the set of 20 for the whole car.

This is one of the reasons I no longer let a shop touch any of my cars unless absolutely necessary. I pick up oil/filter a week or two ahead of time then do it myself including the tire rotate. Never cross threaded a single nut and haven't paid a shop for an oil change in 10+ years. The last few times in it was something each time. Grease on the carpet, screwed up stud, 1.5 hour turn around. I do it in 45 minutes start to finish not rushing and have zero transit time so I save time as well as know it is done right. No over tightened nuts, drain plug, or filter.
