Pretty much any fully synthetic 0W20 weight oil will do. Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Amsoil... preferences will vary.

And always change the oil filter at each oil change (regardless of what Honda says).

the best synthetic oil is the one on sale.

I've sent Mobil 1 to Blackstone for analysis after 10,000 miles and the oil was find and the TBN results suggested I could probably go at least another 1,000 miles.
So, do you really need the BEST? Or is 10,000 miles good enough? Especially when you get get the Mobil 1 on sale and after rebate at Walmart for around $10-12 for 5 quarts?

There's more than just oil ratings, there's info on extended oil changes and other info. The writer of the blog doesn't recommend using adding additives, but using a highly rated oil. In his question an answer section, he states he uses Quaker State Ultimate Durability (But, I can tell you that for my own High HP engines, I have chosen to run the 5W30 Quaker State Ultimate Durability, referenced above, as the best overall 5W30 for my needs. NOTE: He doesn't have a Honda Odyssey.)

The Quaker State Ultimate Durability series are rated highly (can be had for less than $5 a quart not on sale). It's what I'm currently using.
6. 0W20 Quaker State Ultimate Durability, API SN, synthetic (gold bottle) = 124,393 psi
9. 5W20 Quaker State Ultimate Durability, API SN, GM dexos 1 approved, synthetic (gold bottle) = 121,396 psi
17. 5W30 Quaker State Ultimate Durability, API SN, GM dexos 1 approved, synthetic (gold bottle) = 113,377 psi

From the Owner's Manual, "You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is of the specified viscosity grade".. Based on this I would go with any the is API Certified - for me, I use Walmart brand.

That's really good information posted about the different oils. I am going to look into some Amsoil for my next change. Is the Honda oil on there anywhere?

If you want once-a-year change capability, with absolute assurance that the TBN will remain a solid value (even if you do things that shorten oil lifespan, like start-stop without adequate warmup), AmSOil filters and oil.

If you simply want advice for off-the-shelf synthetic oil using the MM, find a reputable name brand that is on sale. I'm a Mobil 1 oil user, and an utter fan of their ATF for our pair of Odysseys. Although we are using Mobil 1 oil and AmSOil filters on our son's Civic, we will probably change to AmSOil filter & oil for that vehicle just to be able to service it only once per year while he is in college.

I don't think you can even buy 0-20W that is not a syn blend or 100% syn. I have not seen any conventional 0-20W at all. Personally I have used Mobil1 from the first oil change and I now have over 167K miles. No smoke, no oil use, and I still have all the factory VCM and all. Runs great so not messing with it. At 115K I changed plugs and all the plugs looked fantastic. Really can not go wrong with Mobil1 and change at the recommended intervals.

Gawd, correction to my above post...I'm an utter fan of AmSOil ATF for our Odysseys.

Been using it for years.
