Should this be replaced every so often? Since they are dirt cheap and easily reached, I figure they should be but maybe I'm wrong.
Yep, and also cause additional crankcase condensation in cold weather, making more work for your oil to combat the resulting acids. If they [PCV valve] go bad they typically increase crankcase pressure which could potentially cause Leakes.
Possibly, at least for some aftermarket. There's such a wide range of quality in the aftermarket space it's difficult to be definitive. So, perhaps a cleaned PVC OEM valve may work better than an aftermarket?
Don't you have to take off the valve cover to do that? Just curious. I haven't really looked at it.Possibly, at least for some aftermarket. There's such a wide range of quality in the aftermarket space it's difficult to be definitive.
BTW, I recommend replacing the grommet, whether choosing to clean or replace the valve. It gets hard with age, heat, and oil, which can make it leak. Mine looked and felt okay at 100,000 miles, but it broke apart during removal. About $3 from Honda.
wow, they sure charge a lot for aftermkt-- some honda genuine online places have them for about $22ish, iirc.I replaced mine last week. Used a Beck/Arnley from rockauto for $15. Old one still rattled but had some oil baked on it.
It can also cause enough of a pressure buildup in the crankcase to force oil out the rear seal.wow, they sure charge a lot for aftermkt-- some honda genuine online places have them for about $22ish, iirc.
This whole question is pretty interesting I think cuz some of our rigs burn some oil-- my '01 burned a bit when i gunned it a bit too much, or maybe it was weird oil that was in it-- cuz hasn't been happening at all in later yrs-- But iwondered about the PCV since a bad PCV will cause oil consumption, iirc.
