I would like to mount up an iPad where the RES would be. Anyone have any pics of what's above the headliner? or maybe pics of how the RES is mounted.

I would rather roof mount it. I can see how a headrest mount would start an all out war in the back seat. If it is roof mounted it will be out of reach from a seated position.
LOL. I see your point. I guess it depends on the ages of the passengers. We decided to get each one of our little ones a Samsung tablet and a pair of noise canceling Bluetooth large earphones. It would keep them occupied on a long drive and they can take them inside if needed for their games or school work. Still cheaper than RES with all its issues.
I’d be careful for a bunch of reasons, notably damaging the headliner, sunroof plugs/rails/rain gutter, and safety in an accident.
iPads are not light - aluminum and glass - and could hurt someone in an accident.

This might be the best solution with a goose neck mount to have it be a high enough to be seen from the third row.
