2011 Touring, mode control motor is not responding to selected position the HVAC control unit. Replaced motor without troubleshooting based on YouTube research of others' problems and solutions, still doesn't work. I'm trying to do the self-diagnstic function, but these steps didn't work (the guide shows a different control unit than I have). Anyone know how to get this control unit into self-diagnostic mode? Thank you!

HOW TO USE THE HVAC CONTROL UNIT SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION WITHOUT THE
HDS
The HVAC control unit has a self-diagnostic function for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).
2. Set the FAN speed to ON with the ON/OFF button, and the FRONT TEMPERATURE CONTROL dial
to Max Cool.
3. Set the FAN speed to OFF with the ON/OFF button, and the FRONT MODE CONTROL button to
VENT.
4. Press and hold the RECIRCULATION CONTROL button, then within 10 seconds press and release the
REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER/MIRROR DEFOGGER button five times. Release the
RECIRCULATION CONTROL button; the recirculation indicator blinks two times, then the selfdiagnosis begins.

Does anyone have this diagnostic info for a Gen 2? I have an '04 throwing the 88 code. The motor itself runs when I apply 12 volts to it directly. I've tried all the cleaning techniques I've found in other posts. With the motor plugged in but actuator arms disconnect it still does NOT work so nothing is jammed. I don't want to replace the expensive motor if that's not the problem.

Can someone direct me to the manual that describes all the troubleshooting steps? I too have changed the mode control motor with disappointing results. I can change the mode blow air out the floor vents, but when I change it to anything else, it stays in the floor vent position. I have to apply power manually to the mode motor to get it back to face or defrost.

Buy the Bishko brand CD manual. The pdf is worth every penny.

But if you are having "mode" control issue, don't bother following the process in the book. There is only 3 possible problems, but requires up to 2000 various tests (hyperbole) that must be executed to determine the exact issue. If your mode control motor isn't turning, just order a new one on rock auto, replace it and see if it works.

That will take 30 minutes, costs $30 (I bought 4 seasons). It will also cut out about 5 hours of tests specific to that motor....along with the hundred + dollars of specialty equipment required required to test each of the 7 pins on the motor (a regular multi meter won't do).

If the replacement mode control motor doesn't fix it, buy a used HVAC control off eBay and swap it ($50) and test the system with it dangling.

If that doesn't work, you already have the HVAC control out to test the wiring between the HVAC and motor per the book.

This is definitely the most effecient rout to fixing a front mode control problem.

Luckily the mode control (and driver mix control) is relatively easy to replace in the driver's foot well. The passenger-mix, recirculation and the coolbox controllers all need the entire blower assembly removed.

Run the self-diagnostic test using the HVAC control panel and see what codes it has.

Definitely do the self diagnosis first.

Type in your year and "Odyssey climate control" into eBay. Look for one in decent shape that exactly matches your button arrangement. There a few different ones so I can't give you a part number.

Really good info on this thread. I also have a 2011 Touring. My mode motor works. The problem is that the thing has a mind of its own. It has all these sensors including solar radiation and humidity, so it just decides to be smarter than me some days. The cold output is so variable as it decides what to do.

I may try the read out procedures above, but for now, I'm just leaving it alone because I don't want to awaken the bear. Right now, it sleeps and occasionally growls, but never threatens me... yet.

I can not get the diagnostic mode to work with these codes. I have a 2011 Odyssey

Hi, where can I get the whole of this manual? I got the following self-diagnostic result and wanted to see what it says in page 21-162.
