2006 Honda Odyssey 3.5L

I've had a weird vibration that only seems to occur when the vehicle is under very little load and with very light accelerator applied. For the most part, it happens cruising on the interstate.

The vibration is intermittent, and it sort of sounds and feels like 10% of the rumble strips on the side of the interstate.

After reading another thread, I unplugged this connector, and it threw a cel, vsa light, and did not allow ECO to turn on. The VIBRATION WAS GONE, but the van had a horrible studder when trying to merge onto the interstate.

I read further in the thread, and it seemed like the brown plug would be a better option, so I tryed it. It turned on the cel, and I had no ECO light, but the VIBRATION WAS BACK.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for the help.

ETA: when it does the vibrating thing, it stops by adding or letting off the gas

After reading some more threads, I thought I might describe the problem more fully. When it is in high gear, with no load and a lightly pressed gas pedal, the car vibrates and makes a low brrrrrrrr. It doesn't sounds or feel like a suspension problem. It feels and sounds like something engaging and disegaging. Torque converter? Why would unplugging that other plug stop it?

If I had to bet, I'd say torque converter clutch, and while it is happening, watch the tach for rpm fluctuations.
After researching more today, I'm almost positive it is a torque converter issue.

What do I need to do now? I see some people are changing the fluid. I don't think I'd have a problem changing the torque converter at some point. What happens if it gets worse?

Tia.

Start with a fluid change and go from there. Perhaps even a 3x drain and fill.

yup, three drains and refills should help… with the last fill use a bottle of LubeGuard platinum. I have been using Valvoline MaxLife + LubeGuard for the past 100k miles with great success. I am at 190k miles, but can’t change my signature!

I had a similar issue years ago. I would be driving around 20 to 30 mph and the car would shudder. I brought it to the dealer and the mentioned there was a update that will resolve it. There could be a TSB on it.. I am not sure.

This is the bulletin you seek, @Toubis and @saw123
I pulled the service records, and the 12-029 was completed back in 2012. Also, a 12qt exchange was completed in 2019.

I've got four quarts of DW-1 lying around, so I guess I'll use those for one of my drain and refills. Then, I will use the Valvoline Maxlife and Lubeguard for the the last two.

Would it be a good idea to go ahead and change the transmission filter when I do this? Should I save the filter for after my last drain and fill?

Thanks again, everybody.

12 quart exchange is interesting. I did not think the total capacity was that much.
For your drain and fills, I would save the DW-1 for the last one. That’s the good stuff.
