Hello,

My odyssey's driver side door got broken into via screwdriver at a trailhead.

I followed another forum post here and bought this part: 04921-THR-A01 from Hondapartshq

It was very easy to replace, you only have to remove a plastic cap in the door jamb, and then remove a single 10mm bolt, and does NOT require opening the door panel. See attached picture.

The van now locks and unlocks just fine using the two mechanical keys that the new cylinder came with.

But has ANYONE figured out how to rekey / repin the new lock to match the old key?

I've been fiddling with it, and it seems to me that the lock cylinder plug cannot be removed from the housing, because there's a rivet holding the long pole to the lock. See below picture.

In other words, because I can't remove the washer and spring, I also can't free the plug from the housing, and I can't get access to change the pins.

The strange thing is - the dealership claims they WILL rekey the lock, but the design of this makes it seem impossible without destroying the part.

I wonder if the dealership simply replaces recuts the key in your keyfob vs. changing out the pins? I didn't use the dealership because they wanted 800$ to do the job. (for a 40$ part).

Has anyone done a successful rekey of this?

Thanks.

It looks like you'll have to pop that rivet, remove a C clip (which will allow you remove that thrust washer), return spring (and maybe one more plastic piece) and then pull out the cylinder via the opposite side (keyhole side).

I had to re-key a 2011 Accord LX sedan door cylinder ... they use the same style of wave key. Did not have to deal with a rivet. I could not remove the existing cylinder from its housing because I did not have a key for it, the original problem! Removed the whole assembly from the door, discarded it, and bought a new OEM Honda part with keys.

It's best to buy a new cylinder inside the assembly that holds it (like you did). Then, after removing the C clip, you have to insert the provided key, turn it (it withdraws the reeds) and pull the key to remove the cylinder from its housing.

Our Accord has a keyed-alike cylinder for locking the gas flap lever. I removed that so I could get the reed numbers, then installed the same types into the new door cylinder. Now, ignition, gas flap lever lock, and door all have the same key.

I used the Eric the Car Guy video as a guide to not lose pieces or irreparably let things fall apart into a mess I could not re-assemble.

IIRC, I bought one exactly like this on Amazon:
