My SRS light just started staying on today. The TCS light and a couple of others flashed on and then went off, but the SRS stays on even after turning the van off and then back on. What could this mean? Also, about 2 years ago I had the transmission replaced under the Honda warranty. If I remember right, before the transmission was replaced those lights would come on. Also, now that I think about it, the transmission jerks sometimes when I put it in first gear and accelerate. If I had to get the transmission replaced again, would it still be under warranty?

2001 Ody, 95k miles

Thanks,

Julie

I'd take to a Honda dealer right away in the event the transmission is failing again. The Extended Warranty for the transmission is 7 yrs 9 mos. or 109,000 miles.

Also a good idea to "touch base" with your Honda dealer before the official time is up on the Extended Warranty. But don't despair as many with the same model year as ours have received "goodwill" consideration after the expiration of the Extended Warranty.

See the link in my signature line below for info on our 2001s.

Julie,

The SRS light indicates that the SRS computer has detected a component failure. It may be a false-positive that can be reset or it may need parts replaced. Your dealer can retrieve the failure code and tell you for sure. This procedure will probably cost an hour of shop time.

As New Dad suggested, discuss the transmission issues with your dealer. Is the jerking new? These transmissions are quirky in that they take a second or two to engage after you shift to D. If you accelerate before it has engaged, it will jerk. Also have you checked the transmission fluid level?

atf level

unlike other manufacturers,Honda insists on having the atf level checked 60-90 seconds after engine shutoff, preferably on level ground and with the engine having been fully warmed up:

=NOTE: Keep all foreign particles out of the transmission.

Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).

Park the vehicle on the level ground. Turn off the engine.

NOTE: Check the fluid level within 60-90 seconds after turning the engine off.

Remove the dipstick (yellow loop) (A) from the transmission, and wipe it with a clean cloth.

Insert the dipstick into the transmission.

=as printed in honda service manuals.
:)

I just had this light checked at a Honda dealer. I was quoted 1/2 hour shop time as all they have to do is read the codes. I was not bothered by the quote because my 02 (and only 02 vans) have a warranty extension on the major components of the SRS system. In my case it turned out to be a faulty seat belt buckle. Covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty. I did not pay anything in the end. The TCS light coming on means nothing. It will come on whenever the van sets codes that may turn the TCS system off. I doubt the SRS light is transmission related.

The SRS has nothing to do with the transmission. What it does mean you have no airbag restraint as long as the light is on. So if you want the bags to deploy in an accident get it fixed. Funny how every complaint on here brings up the transmission issue.

I believe the tranny issue was brought up by NDNV due to the OP's information on the blinking TCS and other lights.

Please see the previous posts by the OP in June 2008. She has had the P0740 code. Also, the OP states "the transmission jerks sometimes". I am aware that the SRS has nothing to do with a failing transmission...

I had an issue where a failing original battery - probably from too many rundowns from the interior lights being left on  was tripping the SRS light on startup or it would just pop up but it would reset after I shut the van off and restarted. No codes were triggered. Replaced the battery, added a Hondoff (search for for it if you don't know what it is) and problem solved. I think there might even be a reference to this problem in an old Honda Service News.

Why did I get confused because I thought it’s two different things. Thanks for the update
