My ody 1996 with 92k on it has an oil leak in distributor shaft(found leak inside the distributor cap). Has anyone tried to replaced the distibutor seal? I just replaced the distributor o-ring knowing that the leak was coming from it. I called the distributor if they are selling the seal they said that I have to replace the whole housing.... $340.00... I dont want to spend that much for a little leak...I need your help folks...

I might have a complete distibutor from a 96 Accord LX. I'll check if they are the same numbers and let you know.

I just replaced the same o-ring but for my 384,000km honda civic. The dealership sold it to me no probs for like $1 and change. I'm surprised you'd have to replace the whole distributor assembly.

The o-ring is outside the housing. The seal is inside. That's what you can't replace unless you buy a housing.

Thanks for the clarification. Honda asked me if it was from inside the distributor (i.e. the seal). For that case, the whole assembly must be replaced like was mentioned. You know what, that assembly is virtually indestructible (i.e. doesn't fail often). Try a junk yard. You can search them all from this website:

Good luck.

What is a shift shaft seal? Do you have a part # or source for it?

Thanks for the web link, I just ordered the NOK BH3888E seal from ebay, hope it fits my 1995 Ody.
Please let us know whether or not it fits.

This a replacement distributor shaft seal for Honda distributors in the F22B1 engine.
This seal also fits F23A1, F23A4, and F23A7 engines, with Hitachi distributor #D4T97-03.
This seal also fits Hitachi distributor #D4T94-04

It is Kok #3286. The seal dimensions are: 12.45mm X 22mm X 6mm. This seal is made out of nitrile, just like the original.

Just replaced the oring & inner seal in my 97 . Got the seal from Red's. I ordered both seals, because I feared I would have the wrong one. Job is quite easy, and actually easier than the video from page one, because the electronics can stay in place. So far after one day no signs of leak. My van has approx 220k on odo, & the distributor shaft did have a slight groove from old seal, felt by fingernail.

I just popped on the new o-ring for my distributor, but during the project I found oil inside the distributor (as well as all the oil all over the transmission.
So, looks like I'll have to get the inner seal and open things up again in a few weeks.
~le sigh~
