2025 Elite loses DVD player, headphones, remote

Just upgraded to a 2025 Elite from a 2021 Elite yesterday and wanted to let everyone know what I found about the rear entertainment system that I cannot find mentioned in any reviews. The Blu Ray player in the front console is gone and is now a pullout storage tray. The RES simply has an HDMI input and you are expected to provide a device for whatever you want to show on the screen. I wouldn’t expect this kind of cost-cutting in the Elite, but I guess Honda thinks I prefer to have loose devices and cords all over my van instead of a clean, integrated solution. The headphones and remote are also no longer provided even though the unit in the roof still has the large IR ports for using them, so possibly if I order some they would work. The aftermarket ones were always a far better deal anyway but you used to get 2 with the van. The manual says the van now allows BlueTooth connection from 4 headphones you supply, so you could pair AirPods and the like with it instead of the factory headphones that there are still pockets behind the front seats for.

I have purchased a mini Blu Ray player from Amazon for $88 that I am going to try though long term I will probably want it nicely mounted somewhere. I can report back if anyone is interested. Our family watches lots of dvds on trips.

Ensure your WiFi hotspot is working. Then use whatever control you have for the stick to log onto that network. That’s about it. I went with Roku since I know how simple the signing in can be. I made sure the login to the services was completed for each of the services I use. There was a challenge with the ads pausing the feeds. Long road trip coming up. I will report back when happens.

I bought 2025 Elite earlier this week and used RES first time today. It's fairly simple process. Opened the screen at the top. I connected my Google's Chromecast with google tv (CCwGTV) directly in car's HDMI port. Connected USB-C power port from CCwGTV to USB-A port next to HDMI port. My CCwGTV was already configured at home using TV.

Click Power On RES from the dashboard display. I got screen on RES to connect to the internet so turned on my phone's hotspot and connected to wifi on CCwGTV using CCwGTV's remote (BT). Then I opened Netflix and turned on Godzilla vs Kong the new empire. Sound started coming out from all the car speakers. With Elite, it was an awesome experience. I haven't yet connected BT or wired headsets so couldn't test sound through headsets.

I share your sentiments!
I'm personally using an Epson Chromecast device I had kicking around that we weren't using.

Have you tried your iPhone setup with a different TV?

The other thing I would suggest would be to take a known working HDMI device out to the van and see if it works. Try pressing play in the main display (up front).

It seems to me like this setup is very simple but it may be possible to have HDMI handshake issues (some devices may not like eachother).

If nothing works I would say you have an issue with the system.

Got our Touring about 20 days ago - got the Wifi connected, and a Firestick - my problem - the Firestick remote will not control the sound. I think because I couldn't find the 'brand' name of the "TV". But I did get 4 wireless headphones to connect. G-kids love it. I just have to be sure the volume isn't too loud. Would love to fix the volume issue if anyone knows how.

What short of issue are you experiencing with volume control?

I use an Epson Chromecast device, the remote it comes with has a volume selector. If I press up or down it will change the output volume of the device and show you a traditional slider on the screen. It however will not control the volume of the cars head unit (understandable).

I haven't personally tried any wireless headphones in our van yet other than trying a pair of IR headphones that wouldn't work for obvious reasons.

Ok. -we use the fire stick remote for the kiddos to pick shows. Volume control is either on their headphones or if the whole car is listening - me.
We are going to try the iPad with downloaded movies to try and use less data for a trip we have coming up.
only bothersome issue - the 7yo is in control when in the back - fine - but when it is just me and her 3yo brother - I have to set him all up before I can get in the drivers seat. Hopefully he catches on soon.

I just purchased a 2025 Elite this past weekend. I connected a Roku Express 4K+ and went through the same process (and problem with the remote setup). The included remote is bluetooth/wi-fi, so it doesn't need line-of-sight for IR control of the Roku unit.

The trick to finishing the setup process is picking ANY brand TV from the list, then say "NO" to the "do you hear sound playing" prompt. The next screen lets you skip the remote control setup.
Volume control on the remote won't control the RES system volume (by design as a safety feature). I paired two sets of JBL noise-cancelling headsets via bluetooth, and they work great! Volume is adjusted on the headset controls (independent of RES settings or other headsets).

I spent about 6 hrs trying to find a solution to this new setup. I was shocked after I purchased this 2025 touring, the screen is here but no internal DVD player. I bought an external blu ray player and connected via the HDMI cord and the regular outlet plug. IR headphones won’t work bc it’s an external dvd player. The IR ones from my old honda odyssey and remote don’t work. So that was a waste. I have 4 kids and had to get a splitter for the one and only headphone jack in the 3rd row. Now I have an external player and 4 sets of headphone cords over my kids laps and they do not enjoy that. How is there only 1 headphone jack in the entire vehicle? Poor form Honda. This was certainly a major downgrade.

The description for the wireless IR transmitter that I linked to on Amazon says 【Easy to Set Up, No Need Pair, No Audio Delay, No FM or WIFI Interference】. So the "no need pair" seems to indicate that multiple IR headphones can be used simultaneously from this one IR transmitter.

The "dual channel" spec appears to indicate that the transmitter can work on either of two channels, depending on the position of the switch on the back. Select the channel that works with your kid's IR headphones.

Maybe contact the manufacturer to confirm the above.
