ADDING an after-market stereo to the Honda stereo

I recently got a 2007 Honda Odyssey. Its the EX-L trim with leather and has both the 6 disc CD changer and rear DVD system (No Navigation). Unfortunately, the audio system didn't have some other standard features I wanted including mp3 CD playback, satellite radio, bluetooth cell integration & USB input.

It is "XM ready", but I am a fan of SIRIUS so I don't want XM at this time. I know XM and SIRIUS are possibly merging so that may solve one problem in the near future, but I was still thinking of maybe ADDING an aftermartket CD receiver in order to get some of the other features I mentioned.

I see how there is a Honda CD mp3 player accessory that can be added into the storage area just below the temp controls of my vehicle. here is what I am referring to:

I am thinking maybe I could just add an after market stereo into this space instead and connect its output to the AUX input of the main stereo. Then I would be able to gain all the functions I mentioned and they are contained in one unit.

Does this make sense? Has anybody ever done this or something similar? If so, where can I maybe get a harness to fit in that area that will fit after-market stereos. Or will I most likely have to have this type of job maybe custom done by a local shop?

There is a company that does XM to Sirius conversions however; it is not avalable. I contacted them yesterday. They seemed to think it may be out by the end of the year. The nice thing about this is your steering wheel controles would work. The company can be found at tss-radio.com. Hope this helps in your quest.

Cheers,

yea, but

Yea, I am well aware of that Honda XM-to-SIRIUS conversion kit too & have been following its progression as well, but that has been talked about for almost a year now. I am not holding my breath on when that thing will actually be released.

I personally think the company developing that conversion kit is probably now waiting to see what happens with this merger. Why put something out to convert a Honda XM radio to SIRIUS when they might all be one in the same and you can receive SIRIUS programming on a XM unit anyway.

This still does not solve the problem of wanting an AUX & USB input on the front dash as well as MP3 CD playback capability. Oh, and Bluetooth if possible as well. I was thinking if I ADD an additional CD Receiver with all these features, it would maybe look nicer and be more convenient. I know adapters can be bought that will attached to the current AUX input & have a wire hanging out, but I am looking for something that will look a little neater and cleaner.

rear view system alternative

I didn't get the NAV either, but don't necessarily regret it. It was a lot of money to get that feature and instead, it looks like some simple add-ons can be had. Here is a rear view camera system that I am considering. Its wireless, seems like an easy installation and apears to be clean and free of hanging wires:

does anybody have feedback about the pioneer avic-d3? does it intergrate with the factory dvd player? i regret not getting the factory nav, espcially for the backup camera.

please advice
I knew I would regret not getting the RES and NAV when I bought our car so I did (just 3 days ago actually!)
I do have the D3 in my other car with back up cam and peripheral monitors (see sig), it's a great unit. I'm sure with someone working on your car with a bit of know how they could figure it out. It's safe to assume that there's RCA jacks running from the stock screen to the stock DVD player. So I'm sure it can be done. But one draw back to the D3 is that you have to have the NAV disc in to have full control over it's functions. Works out OK for me since most of my movies are now on my IPOD. But still a bummer, unless you go Z3 which has a built in hard drive for NAV functions...but it's twice as much money.

Now I just need to get the ODY side dialed in on the IPOD!! And does anybody know if it's possible to view DVD's on the front screen? (when parked of course!)

Aux Input Jack

I posted earlier on this forum about where the aux input jack was located on our Odessey's (I have an EX-L with standard audio also). The replies I received said that there is not an aux input jack - have you pulled your radio out and looked for it? Is there one there? Is it in the form of an 3.5mm jack or two RCA type cables?

Thanks in Advance!

I told you in your other thread. There is none like that. A mini input jack has been added to the 08 vans. But in the year you have, a proprietary connector is on the rear of the radio. There is also one down by the driver's footwell so the dealers can add the XM accessory without removing the radio. P.I.E. and Blitzsafe both make aux input adapters that plug into this connector and give you rca inputs (that you connect an rca to mini stereo plug cord into) or models specifically made for an ipod that have the full ipod connector and will also charge the ipod. Do a search here on Blizsafe. Here is one of the four pages of threads you get when doing so:

Mike, I was reading another thread and one of the posts there referred to the aux input "in the back" a little bell went off in my head that perhaps this is the source of your confusion. RES (rear entertainment or DVD models) have a set of rca type plugs in the side pocket in the back. Many of those owners run a cord to the front for ipods and such. No plain EXs or EX-Ls without DVD (even when they have NAV ) have these inputs.

I understand now - yes i did not realize that some models had the jack in the tthird seat area - I did find the Blitzsafe reference and I understand what i need to do to add and Aux Input. Thanks!
