Just curious if anyone has bought a remanufactured transmission from eBay? Curious on any experience ? Price seems really reasonable and not really wanting to spend 3k+ on a jasper on my 03 with 206k plus it looks like they have 100% positive feedback on some of them.

I swapped out my '99 transmission 2 years ago in my garage. So far so good. Ebay reman, 2 year warranty, core return, updates installed in transmission, new torque converter. No sensors- you use the original one. Reason others cost more because they put in new aftermarket or refurb sensors and no core return and longer warranty. LOL, just recently tossed out the small crate it came with after the 2 year warranty expired. I'd go for it. Find one with longer warranty. Good luck.

You always have to ask if the price is realistic. Looking at Rock, the most complete rebuild kit is $320. Converter is $165. They had to pay at least aluminum melt value for the core. Maybe $100? Then, they likely had to replace some hard parts..gears, solenoids, whatever. Say, another $200. We're up to $800, and haven't accounted for labor, occupancy expenses, all the other costs of doing business in one of the most expensive states in the US. Oh, let's not forget costs of fulfilling the warranty when things do go wrong. And there's that nice shiny paint. Ebay gets a cut, Paypal or the CC company gets a cut. And the business owner wants some profit. So, can you get a quality reman for $1095? I wouldn't bet my money on it. Even if they were doing the reman in Mexico, where you can get good techs to work dirt cheap.

don't know what company re-manufactured the ebay listing...I bought a reman trans from ete reman for my 99 ody about 6 troublefree years ago and had it shipped to and installed at local trans shop who said it was an excellent choice...3 year/unlimited milage warranty...I can no longer remember the details but these are reman with upgrades and changes that correct the issues that caused premature failure and mine came with an external oil cooler included... the about $1700...for me, it was cheaper and faster than having it rebuilt anywhere locally...here is their phone # 800-934-9479...for calls or text (probably quickest) or links below to info from their website

hope this helps you research your options...I agree it's probably best to have it changed at a trans shop but most important...have the rear oil seal changed at the same time since...cheap part that can only be changed with the trans out...

Unless you're going to do the installation yourself, I'd be more comfortable taking it to a local shop who can provide a warranty, even if it's only a 1 year warranty. $1350 plus another $1K for installation, won't necessarily be much cheaper than getting it rebuilt at a transmission shop.

The Ebay remans have decent reviews, but it's a lot of money to gamble if the transmission doesn't work right after it's been installed in the car.
