Auto Power Folding Mirrors

Can someone enlighten me on why Honda can't have their power folding mirrors automatically fold when the car is turned off? Many other car manufacturers do this. But it seems like Honda has power folding capabilities in their high end models but don't have the option to auto-fold. Is there some legal reason they can't/don't do this? I would love this feature. Seems weird to have to remember to press the button to fold the mirrors every time you park in the garage. We have limited space between the cars and auto folded mirrors would definitely help.

My 2017 VW Passat SEL has them. They auto fold when you lock the car (not when you turn it off). However it is a an optional setting. You can have it not do this. There is also a switch that lets you fold them any other time (like if you are pulling into a tight drive thru). Would love to see this in the Odyssey.

Same with my Audi, must be a euro thing because why have folding mirrors if they aren't going to fold themselves when turning off the car anyway...at least give us the option to choose the behavior.

Has anyone thought about installing this to make the side mirrors work like they should with the auto power fold feature.

Robot or human?

I know this guy has it but he wants to charge an arm and leg for the kit
The kit he is asking for is $175 part +$25 for shipping.

What are your thoughts on this one?

Interesting... This is another one of the areas that Honda only came half-way in it's design. Unusual that the creator of this also thought about the windows doing the same thing. The only problem with the windows completely closing, is that some days in the summer-time I like leave the window(s) down slightly with the ODY being locked. It's to bad he could have not created a way to allow for this option, but not to install another switch. The price isn't to bad, but the shipping seems to be high.

Not sure it is the same items I see at Walmart for $69 bucks. It sure looks like it where he probably is paying for it and then sending it out again.

Just looked up on-line at Walmart, what appears to be the identical type or is the same item of lock/mirror auto operator, even a lower price as you have found and quoted. Looks as though it is designed for the ODY 2018-2023. Even down to the word-smithing to me sounds like someone having a hard time describing this item, like it was from China!

Example:

I know this is a late answer but I bought it, installed it, it works, I absolutely love the windows closing and it can be disabled while still having the car locked. Via button combo on the fob.

It auto closes them after the second beep from the van, once you leave proximity.

Now I have a 2018 EX-L with power folding mirrors installed with all the OEM Elite harnesses and I can’t get this Walmart module to fold them. I don’t know why perhaps it’s work on a genuine Elite?

Anyways, the mods awesome, won’t ever have another car where I can’t close the windows automatically or at the very least with the key!

That seems strange, the ODY trim models EX-L and above comes with the Mirror fold option... perhaps one of the Molex connectors failed to have it's pins connect or pushed out a pin from the connector. You might want to ask the seller of this product what wiring goes to the mirror(s) motor to fold them on auto. Or it is possible they may have a module that has failed (looks like there is only one module).

2018 EX-L and Touring lack power folding, it’s an Elite only feature, I installed them by grabbing the OEM elite harnesses and sub harnesses, the oem switch, and the oem master and window switch.

but aye it should work, unfortunately the seller seems confused by my question likely due to difficulties with English

at least the window and sunroof feature work!

I’m bummed tho I wanted the mirrors to go automatically.

dream setup would be pressing lock on the fob would close all windows, Close open sliding doors, close open gate, and fold the mirrors, then have the car lock after the doors were shut

According to the final specifications for the ODY 2018-2019 and probably fits even the newer years as well, this feature is standard for the EX-L thru the Elite trim models. Here's a copy of what I am looking at, look in the section on the left for Exterior Features and than Memory-Linked Side Mirrors with Reverse Gear Tilt-Down. This was on-line from Honda...

Well I guess your saying that the EX-L trim does not have the folding mirrors and Honda has marked their literature incorrectly, and I am not saying your wrong, as Honda made the mistake.

Did you add in the mirror motor and wiring harness to make these mirrors auto-fold?

im very confused, the document you linked, shows the Elite is the only variant of that model range to have Power Folding mirrors, the other variants are manually folding. When I got my EX-L it didn’t have button to fold the mirrors because the mirrors did not have motors or the wiring installed, nor did my doors.

I added new wiring to both doors, replaced the switches, replaced the the entire mirrors with 2021, so I could splice auto dimming into my side mirrors and had the motors.

My Oem switch I installed folds both mirrors perfectly just as though it was factory, however the auto folding functionality does not work from the Walmart module for whatever reason.

I am sorry if you are looking at the PDF that had one column for the Elite showing the yellow highlight, I did that when I first purchased the ODY Elite for comparison purposes and never kept the original file. Shame on me. The EX-L/EX-L NAVRES/Touring/Elite has the bullet marking in the row to say that it is included in that trim level.
However it sounds like you are telling me that the EX-L did not have it. It's one of the features that for people that have smaller garage door widths should have feature to fold the mirrors in so it will clear the garage door opening. If you bought the lowest level trim (LX) beings how it is a stripped down version of creature comforts it would be the only one not having that feature. If I recall a survey I read on garages... 34% of the homes in the USA have garages (not that they use them all for cars/trucks either).

I would definitely send a e-mail or call the maker of this product you have installed and tell them it was a dded on feature for the folding mirrors and verify that the module will work with any Honda ODY trim level will work properly. I still thing their is probably something wrong in the Molex connectors or wiring. But they should be able to tell you what to check with a VOM to verify it is operating correctly or not.

I have gone through my library and have found another document saying that the Elite it the only one having Folding Mirrors (see Below). The document shown above come off the Internet through Honda as well as this document attached. (This document has a lot of data and a lot of things you would probably not know about. It's 86 pages long covering all GEN5 ODY's in 2018. When @Jewels Venus @mikidymac said their ODY's did not have the folding mirror, it made me dig into my files to verify Honda data... It did not match with the folding mirrors, so sorry... ONLY the Elite comes with the folding mirror. I know in one of my message's back a few years back that I said I wished the mirrors would Auto-Fold when you shut-off the ODY and Auto-Open when starting the ODY. I try to remember to press the latching button for the ODY to do this and after they fold in, I shut off the ODY and press the latching button again so it will open it for me when starting. I know some people do not want this to happen, but I enjoyed it when I had our 2008 RX330 Lexus (still wished we owned it and I'm certain it would be driven today if it was not for a tennis ball size hail-storm we had that beat the LEXUS to death, no part of the car was untouched 😭 or our house as well. At that time frame we did not have a garage, just a shed.)
