I am not an Odyssey owner yet, but am working on that status. Just wanted to warn anyone in the New York City area to avoid Staten Island Honda. They are crooks. Their high prices alone do not qualify them for this title... If you leave a deposit to hold a car and then fail to agree with them on financing they claim that you are not entitled to a refund of the deposit. Well I have disputed the charge with my credit card company and we will see if we need to end up in court. Just my experience with them, but thought I would share.

When I got my 02 I don't think I tried SI Honda. I did try Bay Ridge and they were real morons. The service manager was outside looking under the hood of my trade in. I kept the car spotless and it was just 2 years old. He didn't realize I was watching and he dropped the hood from the fully opened position and it slammed shut. What an a--.
Try a search here for a good dealer in NJ. I think a couple have been mentioned in the past. Good luck on the dispute and the Odyssey pursuit. :D

That's inconsiderate and asinine behavior IMHO. You didn't trade it in there did you?

No I didn't trade in there. My wife had to stop me from going in and dropping one of the hoods of one of their cars on the showroom floor. I traded in to PS Honda in Manhasset LI. They were very shady also. They did all sorts of backhanded stuff including trying to sell me a "protection package" for about $1,000 that consisted of undercoating, paint protection and stick on bumper protection strips. I had to ask the add on salesman, a seperate salesman from the one who handled my sale, if he was serious. Yet, I see a lot of Hondas with PS Honda plate frames and stick on bumper protection strips. Amazing.

Turning you over to the "finance/upsell" guy is just another opportunity for the "stealer" to make money. Just say no to all the BS stuff they sell. Try to remain unemotional and uninterested. I've had to get up and walk out in the middle of his spiel before, that shut him up when I returned and asked him nicely to quite wasting my and his time....

Well the whole deposit fiasco has come to an end. After two visits to the dealership by my wife they refunded the money. On the second trip in they brought her out a slip that showed 1K refunded to a Visa card. Problem is I used a Mastercard. My wife pointed this out to them and also the fact that the name on the slip was not ours. I suppose they thought we would just leave with any refund slip. Well my buying experience with them is now over and I am going to take a break before I venture back into a dealership. I will do my homework before going back in too... I would like to thank everyone for their advice and support.

That frigging Staten Island Honda Dealer will stop at nothing to STEAL AND DEFRAUD!!! You should mention this incident to the DA's office and inquire about prosecution for criminal activities.

I'm sure there are some NY newspapers that would like to catch wind of their procedures...

We just bought one this past weekend and I had a similar guy. This guy was trying to tell me that the timing belt had to be changed at 60K miles. Funny, I heard 105K.

Oh and he was trying to sell the extended coverage in case we hit a nasty bump and some of the 14 computer chips in the car went bad, because that would not be covered in the 3/36. Yeah ok buddy. Nice try.

The newer Ody's 07' on is the most reliable AFAIC especially in the tranny area, the only real concern of the past generations. With that in mind, unexpected repairs should be quite infrequent. Look at it this way, you can either pay for anticipated repairs now the the extended warranty or, pay for it later SHOULD they arise. It's your choice?
