We have a 2012 Honda Odyssey EX-L with 147,000 miles. My wife is its primary driver. The check engine light recently came on, no words, just an orange outline of an engine. It was solid, not flashing. I read online that you could buy an inexpensive device to check specifically what the engine light really means. It said P3400. I found a thread here that suggested this likely involves the ECO cylinder deactivation system, but that it was not a serious problem and could potentially be ignored. (P3400 Error while on vacation - Seeking advice) The ECO light was still coming on. I realize there are two separate oil pressure switches. I assume the light still coming on just means that the other set is working fine. Because it looks like it’s a very easy and inexpensive fix, I ordered the parts I need anyway and intended to make the repair myself soon. In the meantime, the check engine light has gone off. The engine has been running fine throughout all of this. I’ve since read another thread on here that says that having the ECM system not functioning is actually better for the longevity of the engine and that the fuel mileage gain the system provides is quite small. (The VCM mega thread - what is VCM, does my vehicle have...)

My conclusion from all of this is that I should return the parts and forget about making this apparently unneeded repair. Any advice on that would be greatly appreciated. TIA

We had this happen on our 16 - given how cheap the parts are, I went ahead and changed out the pressure switch and o-ring (in part to get eco mode back, and in part to make sure it wasn't the other parts of the system acting up) - for our van, the eco light stayed off when the code was on (driving from Denver to Albuquerque) then everything went back to normal with the replaced pressure switch.

You both may want to read the first post in this thread.

Having an issue with the deactivation system is not exactly the best idea. Depending on how it fails it's possible it could get stuck in 3 or 4 cylinder mode I suppose. Which is not good at all.

Fix the code, then disable VCM the right way.

hello i have a 2009 honda accord and it is throwing 3400 code i already replace the sensor but the check engine light keep coming back and with the same code already chage and level the oil any ideas what could it be
It's time to read the VCM megathread stickied at the top of the 2005-2010 section. It's likely on an accord forum as well.
