how's everyone? Got a question on my 95 ody. When I start to drive the D4 light starts to blink and the car will no longer shift into 4th gear and it will not kick down if you punch it. any ideas would be helpful

do some looking for the info on how to retrieve the code , on my accord we went to the "service check connector" and then the code would flash through the d4 light when the ig. was turned on ,, I am sure anyone with a service manual could then tell you what the code is.

So, I also have a 1995 Odyssey EX (only OBD-1, not OBD-2). My D4 light now starts flashing steadily after I drive and start to reach about 25 mph. When I stop and turn off the car and then restart the car, it won't start flashing again until I again start to drive and hit about 25 mph.

I jumped the OBD-1 test connector and turned the ignition switch to accessory, expecting the D4 light to go on and flash a code pattern. But the D4 light did nothing. There was no blinking check engine light either.

Since the transmission control module is apparently not registering and storing an error code, do you think this means that the transmission control module is faulty? Note that I just recently had to replace the ECU/PCM since it was shot and not issuing a signal to the fuel pump to turn on...but this flashing D4 issue was also happening with the previous ECU as well. Or is there something that I'm missing here and does a tranny shop have the ability to read a transmission error code that I cannot using the above method?

Thanks Vivankata! Actually, my problem was that I didn't have a good electrical connection when jumping the OBD-1 test connector. Now, my Odyssey is giving me the following codes (I'm most interested in debugging the flashing D4 issue). But I will get around to the ABS and SRS codes in the future, so any info on what those codes mean as well would be appreciated by anybody on this forum:

1995 Honda Odyssey EX

D4 Error Code: 9

Additional error codes on other systems:
ABS Error Code: 18
SRS Error Code: 92, 51

Thank you Bork. This is helpful.

I figured out that Code 9 on the TCM is an open, short or faulty countershaft speed sensor (as opposed to the main vehicle speed sensor). Honda uses two different speed sensors on this tranny to help detect slippage on this car. The countershaft speed sensor, which is towards the very bottom of the tranny by the passenger side wheel (and is easily accessed if you are underneath the car) has a several-inch pigtail connector attached to it that you access from the top of the engine under the air intake. When I disconnected the connector, the wires going back to the sensor just pulled right up out of their protective sheath. Somehow, they had gotten sliced. I just soldered the wires back together, insulated them with heatshrink tube and the D4 light doesn't come on any more. Easy fix.
