Hello everyone! I am new to the site and found it to be very useful while researching the purchase of my 2008 Odyssey. Anway, when it is very cold (probably less than 20 degrees) the power door locks go on and off while driving. It does this numerous times for a few seconds and stops. It is similar to when kids play with the power lock buttoms(lock unlock lock unlock....you get it). It has happened to my wife (her ride) 3-4 times and me once. Anyone with similar problems? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Mine too, there is one or more actuators frozen. An actuator used to be 100's of dollars, now they are cheaply made pieces of crap from country that is known for producing cheap plastic crap by cheap labour.

Unless you have exceeded the mileage limit, pretty much everything should be covered on a 2008 warrantee.

Is Honda aware of the problem? Is there a service bulletin or are they just fixing the prooblem. Should be a fix under warranty right? Thanks, Mark
You are not the first one having the issue. There are like half a dozen more folks including mjody. There is another thread on this. There isn't a TSB yet. Just take it in and USE that warranty that came with the car when you bought it.

Problem is by the time you get to the dealer, van has warmed up, locks thaw and " well sir, we are unable to duplicate the issue you are having, so......have a super day sir."

True. But one can leave the van overnight (drop off) and have the tech look at it first thing in the morning. No?

I could, but I don't want my van outside overnight where it will be broken into.
Makes sense. We can drop off the car via night drop off into a secured dealership space so I have no worries leaving it overnight. Can ya drop it off day time and have 'em leave it in a secured area over night or does the stealer where you take your car have no secured space for service cars?

Their security is night lights and a sleeping security guard parked on the street.:D

It was -15 degrees here in Cleveland last night and the locks didn't do it. It hasn't done it in a few weeks. I would like to hold out on taking it in until the service bulliten comes out. This way I can avoid the hastle at the dealership of "we can't seem to duplicate the problem.......just bring it back when it continues..bla bla bla" Just a little annoting that's all. I bought a Honda to avoid these little nuisance issues. I've had a few on my Pilot as well. Oh well, I guess there are far fewer problems than most car manufactures. Another annoying issue is the drivers side sun visor hangs down a little and flops when you hit bumps. It bother me b/c I am tall. My wife doesn't care about it. She thinks I am loco.

My door locks "automatically" locked the other night without me setting the alarm or locking them, but it was -18ÂşF, so I expect that was the problem, and it hasn't happened since it has warmed to a balmy 6ÂşF. I just wrote it off to the cold and hope it doesn't happen again.

This happened to us last year with our '07 during cold snaps. I posted about it at the time and the consensus was the actuator. The dealer couldn't duplicate the problem so no action was taken. The other thing that happened as I recall was that when parking the van and trying to lock it with the remote, all the doors would lock except the driver's door. You had to lock it manually by pushing the button down. And then the door wouldn't open with the remote. Frustrating? Yeah, just a little.
Strangely enough, this problem has not re-occurred this winter, despite some recent brutal cold. KOW!
I wouldn't hold my breath for a TSB, this is such a scattered, intermittent problem, I doubt one will ever be issued.

taking my 08 Edge (other vehicle) to the Ford dealer Tuesday AM for the exact same problem but it is only the front passenger door that goes crazy. Typically only when its cold. Press the remote and the locks open except for the one door. It either cycles open/closed or begins a rapid fire cycle of multiple open/close. End up having to manually open the door from inside.

Leaving it at the dealer overnight is questionable. The tech will walk out in the morning (assuming it is cold enough and they get to my car first thing as opposed to having it sit until later in the morning or worse have it moved inside first thing and then everyone grabs the morning java and it warms up).

It would seem that giving them a specific description should be enough. What benefit is there to having a lot jockey see it happen and then a mechanic may or may not see it. The problem is clearly described.

I get a sneaking suspicion that it is a combination of a faulty accutator, moisture and cold temperatures. Replace the damn acutator and be done with it.

Ford dealer said they cannot recreate the problem so can't do anything ! In my case it is definitely related to the cold since the problem disappears once the interior of the car warms up or if the weather is warm. My locks don't cycle on their own while driving, its strictly a problem when activating them (remote or door mechanism).

I can't be bothered to leave it over night for one door but it is very irritating. Summers coming so that should buy me 5-6 months of peace !

Door lock recycling

Took it to the dealer for another oil change today and also asked them to look into this door lock problem AGAIN. I guess enough of us have had this problem that Honda has a fix. It's called "Bulletin 09-054". They did it this AM and so far it's working.

Thanks for the info, chief!

There may be a copy of that Service Bulletin here on the forum.
Or maybe NewDadNewVan can score us a copy?

Am actually going in for an oil change this Saturday and will mention SB#09-054 and see what they say!
