EGR Port Cleaning

I have the low EGR flow and am beyond the 80k extended warantee. The only way the dealer (called 2) will do a good will is if you have had done the maintenance there (do it myself). I called A&H Motorsports in PA and asked about the pipe kit. He said that all they do is drill the port out to clean it and the kit was not required. I am planning on doing this myself next weekend. Has anyone else done this? Any "gotch yas"?

That's interesting. I understood the clogging of the EGR intake manifold port was partly due to the small hole size and also that the manifold material contributed to the collection of the chemicals forming the clog. The tube in the kit was supposedly made of a material more resistant to the clogging.

If your only looking at time and the cost of a throttle plate gasket, I guess you could probably get away without the tube... but you might end up tearing the intake off again at a later date to do it all over again. There's still no guarantees you won't see the EGR valve lift error. It's been seen from 99-03s. I would expect some 04s to see it after the miles start rolling up.

I think the repair amounts to cleaning the holes with a drill bit, boring the holes bigger and inserting teflon liners in the new holes to resist sticking carbon bits. There is a complete description of how to do the repair in one of the TSB's. I'm sure you can find a reference to the TSB somewhere here.
