Exhaust Repair Options

Anyone done repairs on a hole in this section of exhaust? I'm thinking of just using heat tape and putting a butt joint clamp over the heat tape. The section of exhaust is about $100 aftermarket, but doesn't include bolts or gaskets, and I'd definitely need an angle grinder to remove current bolts. It seems like it'd be a bad idea to start messing with the flange connected to the cat converter if I can just patch the hole for now. Any thoughts, or experience with this out there?

Holeee smokes that's a nice sized hole. You can go to the auto parts store and find sheet metal pieces that you can bolt on and it'll last a little while. No joke, but back in the day you literally would grab a tin can, cut it, use a bunch of worm clamps and or heat wrap. Sure it'll rust more eventually, but it's already started with that hole. Unless you have someone with more skills that can weld a piece on. The other problem is that the exhaust is so rusty it would be hard to weld anyways.

Yes, but mine wasn't quite that large. I removed the pipe, ground around the area and welded on a patch from another pipe I had laying around. The front nuts came off ok but the bolts to the cat needed to be cut and repaired. I see you are missing your braided piece that goes over the flex joint. You may want to make sure that is not leaking before spending too much time repairing the pipe. Maybe one of these would work for awhile.
