we just turned 142K mi. on my 05'Ody and now hearing creeking on the front passenger side suspension. Having them take a look at it next week. Also hearing a little knocking over little bumps as well. Sounds like bushings have gone bad somewhere. Also getting vibration around 50-75mph. I think my wife went pot hole jumping. :nothappy:

Yes, Hyundai is better than they used to be, no doubt. But they still can't beat the historically good brands at resale value which for some people matter, unless you are going to drive it forever. The Kia van, sorry doesn't compete with the Oddy, other then being cheaper to purchase upfront.

Give it time, the better models just came out last year and yes, I never said the KIA van compares to the Honda van, I said that the Hyundai/Kia vans missed the new Hyundai treatment, they are/were all legacy models.

Did it last that many miles without making any suspension creaking nor having vibration? I'm impressed . The problem of this thread is that the creaking is happening on brand new, high quality Honda vehicles (all 2011 Odysseys)

Oh crap! This just happened to me today when I was taking a right turn. It sounds BAD! It's not like the car is going to fall apart, but it's not befitting of a 2011, 45K vehicle. I love the car, but we've had some issues with it (all minor things, but they add up). I wish there were a fix for this strut issue, as it is the worst one on my vehicle. Let's all complain and maybe they'll get around to fixing this and the battery issues.

We've had the creaking sound coming from the front whenever we go up a driveway ramp or back out of one. It has been happening for about 500 miles. I think I'll mention it tomorrow to the dealer when we go in for our oil change (only 4000 miles on van).

Whoa, why are you changing the oil so soon? My understanding is that the synth oil is supposed to be good for 7500 to 8500 miles otherwise you would be wasteing money by changeing it too often.
Did you get a service indicator for this?

Yeah, the service notice was already alerting us for a week. Took it to the dealer today and guess what? The creaking did not happen while I was there.

As usual, thanks EE4Life. Good to know that it is not a set of defective struts as somebody mentioned earlier, it just requires some lubricant.

Here is an excerpt:

SYMPTOM
There is a dull popping, knocking, or creaking sound coming from the front of the vehicle at low speeds, usually while turning. A test-drive may not duplicate the noise. If you have a vehicle that reportedly has this symptom, do the repair procedure.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The bump stop contacts the top of the front damper body, or the damper shaft self-locking nut is loose.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Apply Shin-Etsu grease around the top of both front dampers. Retorque both front damper shaft self-locking nuts.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
Shin-Etsu Grease (one tube repairs about 40 vehicles)

Ody T+E front end clicking/clunking when turning

Has anyone had this problem? Honda is telling me that my tires are rubbing in the wheel wells and that's just "normal" design. Well, okay, I had a 2008 and I haven't changed my driving any (they've said I'm driving aggressively)... But my 2011 clicks every time I pull forwards (fast, admittedly) and come to a stop before backing into my driveway. It clicks both directions on tight turns--very CV-like clicking, but a little more clunky and not the same loudness per click like with a CV joint. I've also had five or six loud CLUNKS when going over bumps more recently.

It sounds like a loose strut to me, but they haven't found any problems. One day we had some tight parking to do repeatedly, and I could get the clicks just from turning the steering wheel. We parked the car and left it, while on vacation.

I'm going to pick it up from the dealership now, and I'm considering getting rid of the car. It's only six months old, but I am not comfortable driving my kids in it with an unknown problem that involves steering/front axles and other parts essential to the safe operation of the vehicle. When you spend $50,000 on a car (I'm in Canada), you don't expect a problem from day 1 and a problem that cannot be resolved.

Ideas? Has anyone had this problem? We're going on vacation--probably 4000 miles of driving in 2 weeks--in a few weeks, and as of now I'm not comfortable taking the car on a trip and I am considering renting at 100% cost to us. That'll cut into the vacation budget I'm quite upset!

So I look like a total idiot--the sales guy cannot hear it (two technicians did).. I picked up my car and I can still hear the noise.. And I can hear a weird vibration/road noise when on the highway or driving above 50km/hr that stops when I tap the brakes. It's coming from the same area (front axle/strut area).

There's a thread about it somewhere around here... but it seems to be about the strut issue. The second time mine was in the shop for the strut issue... they couldn't figure out what it was a first too... I can find out how they determined the strut was the issue. Can they just replace the strut to see if that is it? If you have OEM tires and wheels, I can't see why they would be rubbing on the wheel wells.

That said... I think you should drive to visit me... and I'll determine if you are driving too aggressively. We can compare our TEs.

TSB to correct popping, knocking front suspension

Honda is aware of the problem and the technical service bulletin below addresses the problem. Call your dealer and ask them to perform the TSB.

I forwarded this thread on to the appropriate person. I hate looking like one of those nutty people who think any little noise and the car is going to fall apart.. but damn, when other people tell you that they cannot reproduce it you do start to question your own sanity a little

Thank you so much for spotting that. I'm not sure why their service department wasn't aware of the new TSB today while we were troubleshooting this. If this is the problem, the clunking (5-6 times total in 6 months) and newer rattling noise are something completely different. What're the chances of that...all in the same area?

I guess Honda Canada doesn't have a TSB out (yet?), so my dealership was unaware of the problem. I've forwarded them to this thread again now that it has been merged.

Just had the TSB completed. No creaking while leaving the dealership or on the way home. It almost always creaks as I am in any parking lot and after stopping for a couple of errands... no creaking so far. Also had them complete the TSB for the center visor trim misalignment, the radio recall, and the wiper recall.

We noticed a creak when we were driving in circles in a parking garage. It echoed off the walls pretty loudly. Guess we have to get it to the service department...

Glad I read this thread. Our van has the front strut creak.

Question: Anyone experience the same with the rear struts? Ours started to creak from the rear this past week but only on occasion. Sounds like the rear suspension is binding.

Our van needs another oil change, now at 9500 miles, so I called them and told them to schedule an appointment. This time I gave them the service bulletin number A11-038 and said the creaking needs to be fixed. At least this time they took down the info and didn't say "let the technician see the problem". Fingers crossed, hoping they will actually do it when we drop it off this week.

Front struts creaking (again)!

We've been having the same problem with our 2011 Odyssey. The creaking sound comes from the drivers side at low speeds and primarily when making right turns, but can also be heard sometimes when making left turns. We determined also that it depends on how many people (i.e. weight) is in the vehicle. I had it at the dealer about 45 days ago. They loaded a couple techs in the vehicle to weight it down and they were able to reproduce the problem right away. They replaced the upper strut mount which took care of the problem.

However, within the past week or so the creaking sound is back again. I took it back to the dealer yesterday and they were once again able to reproduce the problem by loading up a couple people and going for a drive. The dealer contacted Honda Tech Line who suggested they remove the strut mount and lube the assembly. The dealer just called and said they did this and it appears to take care of the problem. We'll be picking up the vehicle later today...hopefully this will take care of the problem for good (fingers crossed).

Well the creaking is back again after we thought we had it taken care of back in May. Just dropped off the van at the dealer again this morning. Again, it only occurs when we have a group of people in the van to weigh it down more. I don't think the formal TSB that is posted in this thread was released back then, but I know the dealer applied lube to the strut mount assembly. Maybe the TSB has tweaked this process and it will work this time.
