My engine moves around when gears are shifted. I was told this is probably due to bad engine mounts. I am wondering how to know which one is bad? I looked at the passenger side Mount, and I don’t see anything really wrong with it. Would it be obvious if it were broken? I looked through the older threads and I didn’t really see anything that helped clarify this for me.

Try the brake torque test for starters. Put the transmission in drive, and keep the brake pedal pressed down. While doing so, rev the engine up a bit and release it. If you feel a clunk/vibration, your front mount is likely bad. Do the same thing in reverse. If you have the clunk/vibration there as well, then your rear mount is likely bad.

At least one mount is bad, likely front or rear.

However, one bad mount often stresses the others and drags those down too.

Replace all of them as a set. Otherwise, you will be chasing motor mount issues forever.

cut off for a new car
Have you looked at car prices recently? Both the used and new markets are in the stratosphere, and supply is tight.

In comparison, $1k seems modest to spend on what you've got, although it depends on the car's overall condition.
