I was never able to trip the child safety lock until I was able to open the door. Coat hanger didn't work.

Once you take off the interior trim and peel away the plastic. You can see the yellow broken plastic piece and using something you can manipulate the handle from the inside.

Gotta open the door first.

Thinking in your problem, I just check my front doors and you are still able to pry that little lever from the side of the jam with a little screwdriver ( Like the ones to adjust thermostats) shaped in "L" on the tip. I tried it and it works. If you use a coat hanger, cut a piece 8 inches long (the heavy gauge) and bend it in "L" shape (like 35 degrees) at 2,5 inches long; insert it in the jam and pull down; that could be enough to desengage it. good luck...

Your suggestion worked well. I used a cake decoration knife and following your instructions, unlocked the child lock button.

Now I have to install the outside handle, which should be lots of fun. This requires removing the door panel and look inside.

You mean you've been driving around with the door unusable for seven months?
