Ace Black Plastic Gutter Guard

There are three screws that hold my LPlate bracket to the bumper.

2 at the bottom of the bracket that screw into some factory style clips attached to the bumper.

1 in the Top Center of the bracket that screws directly into the bumper. My state requires a front plate. Were I to move to another state that only uses rear plates - there would be about a 1/4 inch hole in the Center Top of my front bumper. I guess I could put an OdyClub tag up there to cover the hole.

I also put the ACE black plastic gutter guard on my lower grill this past weekend. One of the factory bolts that hold the bottom of the L Plate bracket to the bumper was missing. Got a replacement from my Honda dealer - no charge!!??!!

How have you managed to secure the bottom section of the screening so that a rock can not fly under this loose fitting bottom section?

See Photos of my Grill Guard.

This Plastic Guard is much cheaper (less than $5) than a Mr Grill, but I am don't beleive it is as secure. I am thinking of adding a second layer - Plenty remaining from the $3 roll from ACE.

Well I did a tie wrap on every bar and cross bar equally spaced like yours but decided to leave the bottom as is, IMHO if a stone will hit the mesh at least it will protect the internals and most probably will have to replace it but will save the AC/condenser from damage.
Did you remove the entire bumper like I did or did you just do the middle section with the "H"?..

I removed nothing.
I used sicissors, small side cutters, box cutter, and a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the point end of the nylon ties and twist the tie around the pliers very tightly. This produced an almost spring like circular nylon tie that could be fed thru the holes and around the post - with a little help from a pair of small tweezers.

These pictures make the grill guard look wavy, but standing in front of my car, when I look down I only see Black!

Lying on the driveway in front of the Ody it took about one hour.

There were MANY small pieces cut nylon ties and lots of black plastic gutter guard on my dirve when the job was finished.

It wasn't sarcastic, holes in the bumper is not a good thing. My front license plate holder was attached properly, no holes in the bumper. I wouldn't be a very happy camper if someone simply screwed a couple self tapping screws into my bumper. I also noticed over 100 views of your thread but was in a hurry so I just posted a quick

Plastic net found in Home Depo

I was buying the gutter guard in Home Depo to do the grille and then I found this plastic muti-purpose net in the fencing section. It is about 50% stiffer and stronger than the gutter guard and I'm quite happy with it. Cost about $15 Canadian ($12 US) for a roll of 15 feetX2 ft. Big roll remained - may be I'll use it in the yard.

I used a metal gutter guard I found at Home Depot. It was $1 for a pack of 5 three foot sections. I removed the plastic shroud under the hood so I could reach down and mount the guard from the back side. I had to trim the gutterguard a length wise, but the height was good.

Thanks! I was going to spray the guard black, but after I held it up to the van I thought the silver looked good with the blue. Less work too! ;)
The silver color matches all of the trim on the front grill & emblem.
I think it looks great! From the picture it appears you have it on the diagonal--like that too.
Do you notice any extra noise with it on or if it runs hotter? If all is well with it, looks like my husband has a little project for tomorrow ;) He needs to (finally) install the fogs anyway.

This particular guard has the pattern on the diagonal, so that's just how it worked out. I was a bit concerned about airflow, but after seeing all the other posts on the board with people doing it I'm not too worried. I've only had it on for a week, just bought the van a little over a week ago.

ACE Gutter Guard

Rafael: You can find an ACE Hardware store near you or anywhere in the country at the web address below. Dealer Locator is located at the bottom of the front page of this web site.

The product I used is: Co-Polymer GUTTER GUARD 6 inch x 20 Feet. Product code: 0 4982185198 9

http://www.acehardware.com/home/index.jsp

I must admit that after reading the OdyClub web post today, I am seriously considering ordering a "Black - Notched for Lisc.Plate" Mr. Grill directly from the Mr. Grill factory.

I thought this Gutter Guard would look cheap and homemade, and it does in Close-up photos, but when you stand up and look down all I see is Black!! So, I think the Black Tag-Notched Mr. Grill will probably where I end up. But until that time comes, my AC is protected nicely by this ACE stuff.

The same thing happened to me when I bought my 2002 MPV. The licence plate was supposed to attach that way on those but in Oklahoma we don't require one. The only reason the dealer did it was to mount their plate on it. I was PISSED. I would demand satisfaction and that they swap the bumper. It was never designed to be that way. If it was then you wouldn't have much argument.

So, what should one tell a dealer before taking delivery to make sure the frame is mounted corrrectly?

Here in Texas, we've got front plates, but every so often I hear talk about dropping the front plate requirement.

I'd hate to be able to get rid of the front plate frame down the road to find unnecessary holes drilled in the bumper.

I was so pissed about the MPV that I found out what mounting style the Odyssey had before I bought. It has lower points but even if it didn't I told them this. "If this van has a front plate or holder on it when I show up for delivery I will refuse delivery. Period". I asked him if he understood. " I WILL REFUSE DELIVERY". I told him the story of my other van and again I repeated, because he told me the Odysseys had the lower bolt style but I was very adament...if it was EVEN mounted I would refuse delivery. The mounting bracket and bolts were in plastic in the front seat when I took delivery.

exactly my question, but since tha van has been with us since Nov '04 I will only say that I'm calling the dealer on Monday and talk to the salesguy, I may not get anywhere but I'm going to ask them to plug it and repaint it, I will call Honda customer Service as well and ask them about this issue, why only "some" dealers have this practice and some don't...., damn and only I was concerned about them having put the damn "dealer sticker", so I had them remove it and that was just a sticker....

Not to get off track but a guy from my TL club also had this done to his car in NY, the dealer said it was common practice for dealers in States that require a front plate....BS

Ultimately, it may not matter. I was washing my 96 Accord this weekend and looked at the plate frame on the front bumper. It's not drilled in on top, but, over the years, the frame has scratched the paint up pretty good. Even if Texas dropped the front plate requirement, I'd probably end up keeping the frame on it anyway and get some novelty plate. I imagine the difference in paint fading would also be pretty obvious after this many years.

I looked at ours last time I washed (we are in NJ, a front plate state). Anyway, we have the underneath mount frame. At the top, where the screw would be, there is a nice foam cushion stuck on the back of the frame. This keeps the frame nice and tight, and should prevent the paint chaffing problem. So, no worries on my van.
