Intermittent Keyless Start System Error

On my 2019 Odyssey EXL, I have been having issues with a intermittent Keyless Start System error and intermittent issues with the Start/Stop button, where the dash says that I need to hold the key fob close to the Start/Stop button in order to start the car.

The battery in the key fob is fine. This happens sometimes with my other key fob too, battery in that fob is also fine. The walk away auto lock feature does not work even though the setting is set correctly in the settings menu. I read that the 2016-17 Honda Pilot had a recall for the Start/Stop button. That's what I suspect is wrong with mine. I saw a Youtube video where an owner of a Pilot mentioned that once you see the Keyless Start System error, the walk away auto lock feature will stop working until you disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. I can confirm this. I disconnected the battery for 20 minutes and then hooked it back up. The walk away auto lock feature started working again. But a couple days later, I got the Keyless Start System error and again the walk away auto lock feature stopped working.

I called my dealer asking if Honda has any extended warranty on the Start/Stop button like they do for the Pilot. They said no.
Wondering if anyone else has seem this Keyless Start System error? I guess my next step is to replace the button myself. I saw a Youtube video where a device is installed to disable the auto idle stop, which shows me how to take a part the dash to get to the start/stop button.

On your 2 FOB's,
Push the LOCK and the UNLOCK buttons of the keyless remote, and check if the LED on the keyless remote comes on.
Does the LED come on?

YESGo to step 2.
NOReplace the keyless remote battery and recheck the system. If the symptom does not go away, replace the keyless remote.â–

The remaining test require that you have a HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) to test the different systems. Mostly it is in the BCM (Body Control Module) The first test HDS would do is reset the BCM.

Sorry cannot help you after you test the FOB for the LED being lit when pressed. It does require the HDS for troubleshooting.

Thanks for the info.

Tested both FOB's, LED lit up on each FOB after pushing Lock and Unlock buttons.
Both FOBS have no issues locking or unlocking car from afar.

Disconnecting battery for 20 minutes must reset one of the modules, don't know which one, but it does fix my walk away auto feature temporarily.
I have a ODBII dongle, it doesn't return any fault codes. I'm not surprised, since it's not a check engine fault. Yeh, I would need to hook up a HDS to find out what's going on.
Just currently don't want to pay the diagnostic fee!

I occasionally have an issue similar to what you described, except the walk away function doesn’t always stop. I do find that when the car doesn’t sense the remote, it would seem the battery would be at fault, but that isn’t the case. I open the fob and remove/reinstall the battery and everything works fine. I live in a high humidity region and find that I’m needing to manipulate batteries in many things.
This may or may not help you, but it’s just something I experienced.
