You guys are great. You have helped me work through and do by myself fixing my 2006 Honda Odyssey EXL. So my newest problem is I can't turn my key at all. I have jiggled it and tried moving the steering wheel back and for. And I have 2 regular key and 1 service key. None of them work.

If you have a spare key or gray valet key, try that. If you don't, an inexpensive thing you can try is getting a key blank cut to match your key. It obviously won't start the car, but if the key at least turns in the cylinder then you know it's an issue with the one key and you can look into getting a new key fully programmed.

Another quick thing to try is to verify that the steering wheel has not been locked (a mechanical thing). I don't know if Odyssey's suffer this fate but other cars certainly do. if you turn the steering wheel while the key is off, you can lock the steering and put pressure on some internal gizmo. The only way to get the key to turn is take pressure off that gizmo by turning the steering wheel left (try the key) and turn it right (try the key).

Most people would say I didn't turn the wheel, but it happens. Maybe you used the steering wheel to get out... or leaned back into the van to get something and held the wheel.

Worth the 3 second try if all else fails.

Please stay in one thread. Also, "I need help" or "I need more help !!!" aren't great titles. Please try to mention your issue in the title for a better response from the members.

Once again you guys have helped me out withy 2006 Odyssey. And I want to thank you for all of your inputs. So what I decided to do is to just get the whole new unit. I'm waiting for it to get delivered. Only 2 days FedEx. And I got it online from AutoZone. It came to $227.36. That is the total after using promo code Junesavings, gave me a 20 percent discount.

I would suggest getting a key from your nearest Honda dealer first, before using the Autozone part. A dealer can cut a factory key from code, using your VIN number. You will need to bring your title or registration in your name, to prove ownership. Far cheaper than a locksmith and best quality too. Keys are soft metal and the cuts wear faster than the cylinder wafers, resulting in binding their rotation. Professional mechanic for 50 years, have had more sucess than failure with code cut keys. Good luck, maybe save $200.

VERY POSSIBLE EASY FREE FIX! REPAIR IN 5 MINUTES OR LESS NO TOOLS NEEDED

Okay my 2003 Honda Odyssey had the same problem last night when I went to leave from the gas station, where I slid the key in perfectly fine but it would not turn no matter what I did with the steering wheel, locked or unlocked, or the gear shift, etc. Finally after 20 minutes for some reason it turned on. I never did figure out what magic I work to do that so I think it was just by chance. Now I had tried WD-40 with the key out, and that didn't seem to work. Now here's what I did. When I finally got it cranked back up one last time, I took the WD-40 and sprayed it in the ignition with the key in. Then I worked the key pulling it out in out in, or in that motion, and then I would turn it off, but not all the way back. Just enough to turn the power off. Mine turned right back on, and then I would push it Forward just a little bit, as if you were going to accidentally try to crank it when it was already running. If you do it just a little bit, it doesn't harm the car, but it gives that spring motion to work in the lubrication. Then I would turn it back halfway off and crank it back up. I repeated these steps over and over again, and sprayed one more time. Finally I rolled the dice and turned her all the way off. The ignition worked perfectly fine from there on out. Hope this helps everyone else. It's a lot cheaper than some of the prices I saw quoted in the answers above.

I work in the fleet I do experience this not all will work with WD-40, in some case it does but not in all. he mention all 3 key were not able to work is unusual all 3 key worn out at same time? they might have some issue with cylinder coding sticking/worn. nevertheless cylinder has to come out let see what the proper fix he end up with.

Thank you!!! Wow. After feeling as if the key would break (pushing it all the way in, juggling it, trying again and again), this trick worked!! I tried turning the unmovable steering wheel side to side and finally the key turned!!! 🙏🏼 I must’ve held on to the steering wheel as I pulled my stuff out for work (running late), and I must’ve caused it to “lock in place”. Boy!! Saved me from calling and waiting on AAA and looking like a fool 🫣.

Is the steering wheel keeping the key from turning? Try moving the wheel left/right as you turn the key.
