Does anyone know the likelihood of the actual springs going bad? Since I’m planning on reusing the spring and replacing everything else. I also reused my rear springs when replacing shocks and bump stops

springs are reusable unless broken or out of spec... who knows where to find the dimensions for the stock ones, but maybe its somewhere in the service manual.

have a look.

I think the fronts are usually not a problem to reuse. The rears sound like they're kinda crappy and sag over time easily. I do know front and rear springs are not by the same manufacturer.

Something else, by the way - KYB is not OEM. I checked with someone in the know and confirmed that Showa, not KYB, is the OE strut and shock supplier, which explains why the Honda upper mount is different than the KYB part. I did a little digging to see if KYB and Showa had any connection to each other and while I found nothing there I did find that Hitachi is the owner of Showa and actually a few years ago absorbed the Showa name (along with a few others they own) and just run all their stuff under the parent Hitachi name now. Hitachi makes the OE shocks/struts on the 5th gen. Which this got me wondering who makes the 5th gen rear springs, how they hold up long term, and what their tech specs are. That I have gotten no confirmation of as of yet. Yeah, I'm wondering if a set of 5th gen rear springs may fit the 4th gen.

how they hold up long term
Apparently not good based on the threads seen in the 5th gen forum fairly recently of them breaking and the part apparently being on backorder.

Hey guys. I was looking at getting the KYB Strut Plus for the convenience but was wondering if going through the hassle of building the strut myself with OEM parts is worth the extra cost and hassle.

Are the OEM strut mounts and bearings that much better quality over KYB to justify the extra $$ and hassle/danger of spring compression for rebuilding myself?

KYB strut caps are crap. Plastic bearings. then end up sounding like you're plucking the fattest string on a piano as you turn the wheel - ' twhong twong twhong'. A real shame. But Monroe and others are the same dumm-a$$ design. So keep the OEM strut caps. Otherwise the KYB are fine.

After reading and watching videos, I am going to do the front struts myself. I have a 2012 TE with high VIN so it after CB088498. I just ordered the KYB from RA. I should replace 2/3, 12, 21, and 22? With the swtich mid 2012, should I just order from the 2013 model so I dont butter finger a part?
