Hello. When I was at the dealership (routine maintenance) they noticed an oil leak. They showed me one of the main bearing side cap bolts (passenger side rear) that is leaking. I cannot remember the price they quoted. It was more than I could afford at the time.

There is NEVER any oil spot (under my van). Even if I leave in same place overnight. Runs good, no burning oil smell, and not (that I have noticed) smoke coming out of exhaust.

Still it loses about 3/4 qt between oil changes. I do oil changes when the % go down to 5%. (7500-10k miles?).
My Van has 240k on OD. Just wondering if its worth the $ (under the circumstances) the have the leak taken care of.

A little bit of gaskets history of your van can help. Have u replace any after 240k?. Valve cover gasket, rear spool valve?.

When I was the dealership the last time, they let me get up under the van and it's definitely a leak around one of those bolts. No doubt about it.

It's strange, it's not enough of a leak to leave a puddle/spot anywhere. Even if I leave it parked overnight.

But I am losing about 3/4 of a quart every 7,500 to 10k miles.

Runs like a charm. Idles like a sewing machine.

It's just that oil leaks annoy me to the "inth" degree...

So at my dealership when I call a "leak " it has to be dripping on ground or its not a leak and is just seeping. Ody brother not to be rude your van has 240k imho it not worth the money to fix . You say no leaks on driveway or burning smell when you do oil changes just wash it with brake clean you will have more $$ in your pocket 😉 this is just a mechanics opion but hey what do I know lol also all vehicle burn oil its normal to burn oil about 1qt every 750- 1000 miles sounds normal at 240k miles our vans are not a fine wine that get better with age its the opposite be glad yours is still on the road it could be worse.

Listen to 09Ody, and ignore the leak. Sometimes dealerships like to plant a seed of doubt in your head, but there's nothing wrong with a 'weep'. Even if it becomes a leak, you can put a piece of cardboard on the ground. Save your money, and put it into a new or newer van.

Also, and in general, it is a good idea to keep your oil topped up between oil changes, especially if you're about to take a long trip.

Agree. I check my oil about once every three days.

As a rule, most engines with fewer than 50,000 miles shouldn’t use much more than a quart of oil between oil changes (unless the manufacturer says differently). If an engine requires a quart every, say, 3,000 miles or less, that could be a sign of a leak (which may not be easily visible) or of internal engine problems, such as worn valve guides, piston rings or any of a number of different types of seals. Once an engine gets beyond perhaps 75,000 miles, and certainly past 100,000, increased oil consumption should be expected.

So your engine is at 240k they say its normal for a 50k engine to burn 1qt every oil change well round up to 250k do the math its normal .

I have the same leak, its the cap bolt closest to oil filter. I even tried to fix it myself, you have to pull the axle to be able to get the bolt out.
The fix did not hold. I get drops of oil on the ground when I park at incline. Most of the time it will not drop on the ground if car is level.
I don't know what to advice you. I wish I knew how to stop this leak for good, because taking things apart is not a challenge for me.
My car has 226k miles right now and I loose some oil between changes, but not enough to concern me at this point.
If you do the math, it will become obvious that its cheaper to add oil than proceed with any fix at the dealer at their rates.

Note, I work on many Odysseys and Pilots. Most if not all develop such leak after about 150k on the odometer.

You can reference this for the fix that Honda recommends, page 5

To quote a very highly experienced machine shop/engine builder..."If an engine is not burning a little oil, then the top end is not getting enough lube." What is supposed to happen to the oil that is lubing the top of the cylinder? Our "06 EXL-RES Ody burns about the same amount of oil as the OP over the course of an oil change (3,000 miles) and I am thrilled considering it has almost 300K on the odometer.
