Anyone experienced phantom braking? We were travelling on an uphill road and all of a sudden, our 1 month old Odyssey braked, scaring everyone. My wife was screaming, thinking that I was joking around. Luckily, the vehicle behind me was more than 3 car lengths behind.

I traded in my 2020 EX-L for the 2022 just over a month ago. Never had it happen on the same stretch of road over my 1.5 years owning the 2020. I'll be turning off the collision mitigation as, ironically, it's going to cause accidents more than preventing! If I turn it off, will it auto turn on again?

That's what I was afraid of... my wife drives the vehicle most of time and so she's known to listen in one ear and out the other (at least with me) when there's anything to do with any vehicle (ie. she's pretty much left anything to do with the vehicle to me to fix and all). I can see that the one time we forget to turn it off is when it causes an accident. :(

I have had phantom braking on our 2021 but not too much. It happened once when exiting the freeway and the computer saw the change from concrete to asphalt as lane paint I guess so it stabbed the brake doing 60 mph but let up pretty quick. Wife and me looked at each other like "why did you do that" and I said I didn't. Might have to do with the new more sensitive sensors in the 2021+ models I guess. It has done it other times too when it gets confused.

The other system that is weird is the lane departure warning. It goes off way too much as it interpretes every line on the road as lane lines including expansion joints, aspalt to concrete, pothole asphalt, and tar repair. Any time there is a visible transition even if its round or squiggly shaped, its lane paint according to Honda and it will warn me everytime like I am departing lanes all over the place in a construction zone. The system should be smarter than it is. It is only looking for contrast changes and not looking for long straight lines just any contrast change and your departing lanes. It probably can't see color because that would be a good thing for it to key off on and shape. Dont get me started on the steering warning in a straight line. The lane keep assist is a joke too, even a slight curve and it throws the steering warning because it can't pull it off, and it can't stay down the middle of the lane to save its life. It floats all over the place, probably because these contrast sensors can't tell where the lanes are very well. Tesla is practically self driving and Honda is like 10 years behind them. Refinement is a good word Honda should learn. They used to be great at it.

The bigger issue here is when unneeded braking occurs on slippery roads. Would the traction control system know enough to prevent a serious loss of control? I certainly wouldn't trust that to happen. Honda's technology needs some serious refining.

HI There, I have a 2022 Touring and have had over 12 instances of malfunctioning with the auto braking system. It has even slammed on the brakes while in Mike's Car Wash and stopped the belt. Because my vehicle throws no code the dealership says there's nothing they can do. According to them, they can't even pull the auto braking activation history. I even have a log of dates and times for most instances. I called Honda of America and a lemon lawyer and none can help due to no codes. I find it funny that there is history in the vehicle's computer of a dirt code which they tried once, only once, to blame the occurrences on. I think it's crazy that they want a feature you purchased disabled to prevent the vehicle from causing an accident when it's supposed to prevent them?!?!?! Huh! I'm at a loss myself, I guess they're just waiting for a terrible accident to occur. I have everything noted for this reason with mine.
