I have a 2006 Ody Touring, and in winter conditions, when the temps are consistently 35 degrees and lower, I get that constant noise when I turn my wheels. I assume its the power steering? I've had it looked at, but the dealer and another shop say it's normal. I'm not buying it. I mean the van sounds like I haven't taken a bit of care with it, which isn't the case. Any suggestions? Could it be the transmission? I wouldn't think so because the transmission has always been fine.

Thanks for any help you could give me.

You need to search for the problems with the power steering pump. There is a TSB to cover this problem. The fix is to replace the power steering pump and the reservoir.

I had the same problem with the pump on my 05 last winter, got it fixed at the dealer.

Thanks

I should have searched. Thanks.

Honda TSB 07-005: Power Steering Pump Whines, Buzzes, or Hums

The initial release of the TSB called for replacement of the power steering pump and power steering fluid reservoir, I believe, but the TSB has since been updated to only replace the reservoir.

I have the same problem.
I have a 2006 EXL . I am at 60K+.

I came back from having it look at the dealer today. The technician went for a ride with me but the temperature outside today was 40F so it was not making the sound. The technician told me he knew exactly what it was even though it was not making the sound when we rode together.

I am not familiar with dealing with dealers. Can someone please tell me the options I have? I feel the dealer should give me a break with this since it seems that it is a defective part.

I greatly appreciate suggestions.
Thanks,

Try to deal with them. Your van is already 4 years old and has 60k miles on it so I'm pretty sure they are not going to help you that much. Ask for some goodwill :) and is your steering heavy at all? Because if it is you're gona have to change the whole part the pump and the reservoir, but if it's not that you just gona have to change the reservoir I think. Anyways good luckk

Thanks for the quick response.
The steering feels normal.
I wonder if this was a recall I missed being notified. If it was, then I will try to ask for some consideration from the dealer.
What is a TSB?
If the dealer does not want to help changing the reservoir looks simple to tackle as DIY. I wonder if I could start from just changing this.

yeaa but again you still have some possibility that they might help you out since so many ppl have this problem. I'm only on 100k miles and I think I'm running on my 3rd set of steering pump? It's been only about 10k miles since the 2nd set and it's already acting up a little. And Im
pretty sure there were some people who DIYd it so just look around a bit. Good luck

OK add another power steering pump to the 07 failures. My daughter was just about to go for her final driver's test and she said the steering at low speeds was very strange. The Ody was in for service and TC change and they found the power steering pump had failed. After the PS was fixed I told the daughter she was pretty good at knowing when something was wrong.

PSP reservoir?

What's wrong with the PSP reseroir that requires replacement? Has anyone tried replacing the PSP suction hose fitting o-ring? The reason I ask is that I have an 04 TL that had PSP noise at low temps and the Acura TSB was to replace the PSP suction hose fitting o-ring (new ring material, black to orange). The O-ring cost about $1 and it took me 30 min. My 04 TL and 05 Ody pumps, hose fittings and reservoirs look close to the same. I'm going to try replacing the o-ring first but the weather is warming up in KY so not sure it will be a good test. The o-ring part# is 91345-PAA-A01.

Power Steering Noise 2006 (Continues after Resovoir Replaced)

Recently had Power Steering Resovoir replaced in a 2006, although this seemed to have helped somewhat, it has not fixed the problem entirely. Has anyone else experienced anything similiar?
Notice more at very low speed manuvers, also Left or Right turns, it still occurs. Suggestions?

I have a 2007 Odyssey with 135k on it. I had the power steering pump changed at around 115k on a goodwill basis that cost me $125. Just recently when it got cold here in Chicago, my pump started to whine and kept getting worse. Looking on these forums I found a fix that sounded to good to be true. I figured I would try this before I take it back to the dealer and go through incompetent arrogant Honda service writers that look at you sideways when you even mention a recall. The fix was to replace the existing "O" ring on the inlet side of the Power Steering pump. The ring cost 65 cents and a bottle of Honda steering fluid was $5.

The fix was to replace the old black O ring with the new "orange/red" colored ring. But when I opened it up it was already the new orange/red O ring. I still changed it and works fine now. The old one still looked fine so I doubted this was going to work or keep working but it's been fine now for 2 weeks.

I did talk to a friend that deals with hydraulics and he told me that what can happen is that fluid will slip by the O ring and cause cavitation, like when a prop on a boat cavitates in the water it causes air to be pushed with the water, in this case the fluid. This air builds up and doesn't let the pump do its thing. If you look inside the reservoir you will see bubbles, that's not good. If you don't see a leak and the reservoir is topped off this could be your problem.

It took me about 10 minutes to take the 10mm screw out due to close quarters and 20 minutes to put back in. I cut an old 10mm wrench to about 3" in order to get to the bolt around the belt and hoses.

I saved myself a couple of hundred dollars easy by trying this first.

Good Luck.

I replaced the 0-ring with the new orange one from Honda, it cost me $2 bucks, and the noise is gone! I'll see if it's still gone in colder temps, today we have a freak day of 60 degrees, tomorrow below freezing.

I also used a turkey baster to take out the old fluid, twice. Still not as clean as it should be, so I'll do a couple more bottles - I figure spending another $6 for fluid is worth it, considering the rip-off artists at the dealership wanted $420 to change the seals and flush the fluid.

I had the same problem on my 06 Odyssey, with the foaming and noise. Honda changed my pump 2 years ago via the recall, but left the old tank. I just replaced it with the revised power steering tank, and it is back to normal. I would also order a new cap at the same time, as your old one will not fit anymore due to shrinkage. The only thing that I did that I hope doesnt affect anything is I used Autozone power steering fluid made specifically for Hondas. So far so good. Has anyone else used Autozones Honda only power steering fluid? Any problems?

I have an 07 ELX and think I need to replace the o ring. Should I drain the entire reservoir or can I just use a rag and contain the fluid from the hose. Then top it off. Also how much fluid will I need.

FYI the dealer wanted $91 for the job.

No need to drain the reservoir. Only a trace amount of PS fluid will spill out.

Just keep everything super clean, and lube the new o-ring and its bore with PS fluid before you reassemble the fitting.
