My wife's keyfob stopped working yesterday. I changed the battery but still not working. When I push a button on it the little red light goes on so I assume it is getting power. My keyfob works fine.

Is there any procedure to reset this thing or take apart and clean the contacts ? Dealer wants $170 CDN to replace this thing :nothappy:

Thanks in advance !

Do steps 1 - 12 on the same remote (AT TIME OF PROGRAMMING BOTH REMOTES MUST BE PRESENT SINCE THEY WILL NOW BOTH HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED.) The following steps 1-12 are done on a single remote step 10 is done on all remotes to be programmed up to 4 can be programmed

1) get into the car shut the doors (including trunk or tailgate) and make sure they are unlocked
2) turn on the ignition (do not turn on the engine just the ignition til the dash lights come on) (LISTEN FOR A QUIET CLICK)
3) press the lock button on remote (turn to off) (Do not remove key)
4) turn on the ignition (do not turn on the car just the ignition) (LISTEN FOR A QUIET CLICK)
5) press the lock button on remote (turn to off )
6) turn on the ignition (do not turn on the car just the ignition) (LISTEN FOR A QUIET CLICK)
7) press the lock button on remote (turn to off )
8) turn on the ignition (do not turn on the car just the ignition) (LISTEN FOR A QUIET CLICK)
9) press the lock button on the remote
the locks should cycle to indicate that programming mode was entered successfully
10) press the LOCK button on each remote you want programmed and the door locks should cycle again to confirm programming. THIS STEP NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR EACH REMOTE
11) turn off the car fully and remove key.
12) try locking/unlocking with remote to test - See more at: 2007 Honda Odyssey Keyless Remote Programming - Car Forums and Automotive Chat

I think the programming is all done through the car itself. If the fob is transmitting, it could be the car's programming got changed somehow, and the car cannot see the fob. There is also a limit to the total number of fobs, as I recall-- I think it is three. Has anybody adding extra fobs or been otherwise messing with the car's programming?

A volt meter to test the new battery might also be a good idea. I have opened brand new batteries before which had low voltage-- old stock probably, but could be defective too.

It may be uncommon, but doing a complicated reprogramming or replacing a fob because you assume the battery is good would be a costly error. (And you have to program for a new fob as well.) You could swap batteries between fobs, and if the problem moves to your fob, it is almost certainly the battery.

Also, be certain you have good contact in the fob. Corrosion or gunk in the contacts will cause the same result as low battery voltage. If the point of contact isn't good, nothing else matters. Has the fob gotten wet? Clean the contact point with contact cleaner, or worst case, super fine sandpaper (probably 600 or finer) sanding only very slightly if there are signs of corrosion, but if it got wet, you might have other corrosion issues inside as well...

All the light tells you is there is some power flowing. Certainly when my battery last died in my fob, the light was still working, if somewhat dim at that point.

Thanks, I have taken the whole fob apart. Battery contact points all seem good. Tested the new battery with a multi meter - just over 3V. The fob just doesn't seem to transmit.

I order a (used) replacement off eBay for $30 and see how that goes. I had read you can program up to 3 fobs on these vehicles but haven't tested it.

My wife lost 1 and I replaced it and it worked. She lost the second and when I programmed it, it and the original (I only have two) stopped working. How do I get them to work again? When I go through the programming steps, they work as noted, until you try to lock or unlock.
