Long story short, newer Pilots have been rooted giving you the ability to sideload apps like Waze and Spotify directly to the unit. While yes I can use CarPlay to get "maps" and Spotify, it would be cool to be able to install additional apps.

The guide for a 2016 and up Pilot is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71331595&postcount=404
I am not an Android guy so I am hoping someone here with more knowledge than I have can assist.

Thanks!

They would work as long as you can provide internet access to the vehicle, which I can via Tethering from my iPhone. And in regard to warranty, as long as you can put it back to stock, I can't imagine an issue here as it is all software.

The pilot guys on XDA were able to make a backup of their unit's restore SH file, so if you were to push that back via ADB and then do a factory restore of the radio it would be back to stock without root access.

Curious to see if anyone has gotten anywhere with this. I've been trying to look at guides for other Honda vehicles and year models, but haven't really gotten anywhere on the Odyssey. Some methods discuss accessing the browser. Things I've tried/found:
Enabled developer mode/USB debugging
Changed USB mode from "Apple Carplay" to "ADB"

I've never been able to get a laptop connected via USB to see any response to "adb devices" or any other adb commands.

Other users have discussed ways to get to the browser. I've been able to get the browser by connecting a keyboard and hitting Win+B.

Attempted to play around with this to get access to the USB ADB as well... no dice. :/.

I also reached out to the developer of hondahack Honda Hack ? Learn how to root your Honda head unit and install apps. but he mentioned that his exploit only works for android 4.2.2. There are lots of root exploits available for Lolipop... I am just not a good enough developer to really run with this. Since we are able to open the chrome browser on the car, its possible it could be exploited that way.

There has to be a way to get USB ADB connected and working... all the settings/options are there to put it into the right mode. I think we are just missing something somewhere that enables the last step for it to be recognized by a connected computer.
