Has anyone replaced their spark plugs at the dealer recently? Just wondering how much they charge for them nowadays. My 08 Touring is at 194K miles with the plugs replaced at 105K previously. I am in the New England area. Thanks!

I definitely would not have this done at a dealership. Buy the correct spec NGK Laser Iridium plugs from Rock Auto and find a good, independent mechanic to install them.

BTW, you are at the mileage where you might want to consider having a valve adjustment done and new valve cover gaskets installed. Also, you are getting close to the 2nd timing belt job.

I watched a YouTube video on plugs replacement. The front ones look easy to replace but the back ones seem more difficult as we can’t see them. It has to be by feel.

My timing belt was replaced at 182k miles and I think the valve cover gasket was replaced too but I have to check my service record to be sure. Thanks for the advice

Front ones are easy. You will need a set of extensions for your ratchet. I found that having extensions of multiple lengths came in handy. Back ones are not that difficult. If you lean over the top of the engine you can see the coils, a light might be of help. I did mine in sunlight with no extra light. Just remember you're unscrewing/screwing on in the reverse direction you're accustomed to. Also consider replacing your coils as long as you're at it.

I just got back from getting oil and coolant changed on 2018 EXL at dealer. Part of their inspection identified that spark plugs "need immediate attention" to be replaced and dealer quote is $633.87. van has 50,615 miles on it. I asked about this and was told that they go by Honda's 7-year recommendation. (Note that they also stated that valve adjustment was needed $1,049.05 and replace timing belt $2,431.95; so total of $4,114.87 all based on 7-year recommendation, and probably will be higher for taxes, shop supplies etc.). Holey Moley...............

That’s ridiculous and typical dealership price gouging. Don’t ever go back to the dealership unless it’s for recall or warranty work.
6 spark plugs installed should be around $200. Timing belt job around $1,000. I doubt that you need a valve adjustment.

Have you muzzled the VCM?

I am about to do the same jobs on my '87 EX-L. I am not sure if the dealer is doing anything bad here. Yes, the prices are high, but let's look at a few factors: (a) labor prices have gone way up ($150 - 200/hr are typical these days), the parts prices have gone up substantially (not sure if it's tarifs, but have you looked at the prices online lately?), and the 7-year recommendation comes from Honda. Yes, we can do things much cheaper using aftermarket parts and our labor, but dealers don't use aftermarket.

A timing belt replacement and a valve adjustment have virtually no overlap, so labor prices are additive.
