It reads the speed limit signs on the road. I have noticed that if I am in a 3 lane road and in the most left lane, it does not pickup the sign if it is on the right side.
On single lane and 2 lane, it works flawless. It will displays the last sign it was able to read successfully.

 

Mine sometimes says 100 in a 15....

 

I believe it uses the front windshield camera. The speed limit recognition seems to be mostly experimental, since it often gives incorrect speeds.

 

Interesting. I really thought it came from GPS (maps) data...

Thanks for the negativity. Didn’t even know a classified section existed. I bought a certified preowned and wanted to confirm it was flakey and something I needed to fix while still under warranty.

 

It does get the data from the front camera. When on Highway 101 our's typically shows the speed limit as 100mph. Might be a way to talk yourself out of a ticket, LOL.

 

It was too funny, when going to our church this afternoon, the Speed Limit sign had a cover over over the 65 numbers except, it only covered the second half of the 6, the cover had 55 on it. The display showed 655 speed limit.

It is now the following day now, different reading on the same speed limit sign it shows 65 MPH... Well so much for Honda's accuracy, although the contractor working on the Interstate 80 has not covered all the speed limit with it's cover-over of original 65 speed limit sign with the 55 speed limit. I willl attempt to take a picture of the sign when we head to church for VBS.
