Hi, I've searched and couldn't find the answer for this for sure. If a SRS reset works (ie light goes out and doesn't come back on) does this mean the air bag system is working again (ie airbags will deploy)?

Yes as long as the light turns ON when you turn you key to ON position. Basically, you have to make sure that the bulb is not burnt out on the dash which you can check by turning the key to ACC or ON position. If the SRS light lights up along with the other lights and then goes away after the start, the SRS system is working properly.

DV is correct. The vehicle does a self check of all safety components upon startup. As systems "pass" the light will turn off, if there is a problem the specific system alerts the driver with the system illuminated, like SRS or ABS etc. So no worries if there are no lights staying on.

2009 Odyssey SRS Light

I just had a in dash DVD/Navigation unit installed with a drop down screen in the back. After the guy did all the work, I noticed the SRS light was on. The guy said he would reset it using an OBD Scanner Tool but from what I have read online, that is not the proper way to do it. For this reason, I did not push him too much... because I didn't want him to touch it if he really didn't know how to do it. Anyhow, I got under the dash today, the fusebox is on the left driver side kick panel. Above the fusebox are some other connectors. Two of these are yellow (One larger than the other). I pulled out the smaller of them and tried the reset procedure I read for some of the older Odyssey models. But it did not work. But I am not even sure if I used the correct connector. Does anyone have any pictures of the MES connector and where it is exactly located on the 2009 Odyssey? Also, lets assume there is something actually work, will the light go away and then come back on or will it just not go away at all?

Did your installer disconnect one of your airbags during his installation? If you have a SRS light on, he might have disconnected an airbag, tested the new equipment he just installed to see if everything "powered up" correctly. To do this he needed to start the vehicle, the system did a self check and found an airbag not operational resulting in a SRS warning light to stay illuminated on the dash.

He probably unplugged a side airbag while running the wires for the rear overhead DVD. If the light stays on there is a possible problem with a connector. To test this, you will need to reset the system using an PGM tester/or OBD scanner. This will reset the light, and when you start the vehicle again, the onboard computer will again do it's self test.

If the same problem occurs the system will warn you with the SRS light staying on. It the problem was resolved, the light will stay off.

So using the OBD scanner to reset is ok. Make sure the light stays off.

Hooked up an OBD scanner tool and it show zero codes. I still erased everything (just in there was something) but the light is still on. Now, I am not sure if this means there is a fault or that the SRS light just cannot be reset this way.

Consumer OBDII scanners do not talk to the SRS controller. Reset only resets the PCM. It does not read SRS codes. The Honda HDS has separate logic in it to handle the SRS. You don't specify your year but if you do someone with the OEM service manual can look up the read/reset procedure for your year.

Ok, I ended up taking the Odyssey to the dealer after failing to reset the SRS light. The van was at the dealer for three days. It turned out that the unit that controls the airbags (behind and below the radio) was dead. It had to be replaced. Luckily, they did it without charging me.
