This is my first post. I had an after market HU put in and was wondering if there is a way to have the volume control on the steering wheel work with the new HU. Thanks for your help.

I'm considering this thing too. But I think it costs too much ($60+) to just add 3 functions to the steering wheel: Volume +/- and next track (or next preset radio station). On top of that you will have to drill a hole to mount the LED. It's that 3 functions really worth the time and $$?

I'm thinking of putting the OEM HU back when I decide to sell my van and thus regain the remote functions on the steering wheel.

Do what videonavi (Steve) and I am planning on doing and I don't think so... Steve added 4 additional buttons to his steering wheel control. It's just a matter of wiring in some switches with resistors and voila. Check the gallery, he put his switches in the screw holes on the sides of the cruise control and audio control pods. Most people miss this. Think about it: 7 buttons of steering wheel control over your aftermarket head unit. $60 + $10 in switches and resistors is worth it in my mind.

Besides, shop around. I got my interface for $30 on ebay. Can't beat that! :p Search some online vendors, I'm sure you could easily get one for <$40.

The internet can be your friend...

RES aftermarket avail??

Just purchased a 02 Ody EX-L. I would like to add video and cd changer and had a few questions.

First where can I purchase the Ody RES with DVD player or a reasonable facsimilie.

Does the EX-L AM/FM/CD head unit provide control for the CD changer. Who is manufacturer of stereo?

Will dash accomodate CD changer and DVD. I would rather not have to put a unit under seat.

Any speaker upgrade suggestions which are compatable with stock head unit.

Off topic but how would the wood grain accents look with grey interior.

Thanks.

Farid.
P.S Of the 150 miles put on in the 2 days weve had it I have driven it 12, and that was just to bring it home from dealer. I hope my wife lets me have it at least to install STUFF:rolleyes:

Farid,

I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. Others can chime in later to give you more complete answers:

The EX-L RES is a factory model, though most dealers will install (or have a local afertermarket shop) a DVD or VHS (or both) based system for you. You can probably get a better price if you go to a local shop yourself. There are many posts here about very cool (and not so cool) aftermarket systems people have done. Perform a search....

You can get a CD changer that goes under the front seat (passengers seat I think) from a Honda dealer. The internet sites discussed normally have a much better price than your local dealer. It is only a 6 disk changer though, and a little pricey. There is also an in-dash changer (even more espensive if I remember) that goes right underneath your EX radio in place of the pocket. There are also a couple aftermarket changer units that can be installed with an interface device that can be used. Again, search this forum.... I think that right now Hondaparts4U and HondaAcuraWorld are offering the best deals and shipping, but there are others.

Yes, several folks have installed an in-dash DVD/CD changer right underneath their stock radio. I think there are pictures in the gallery of some of these set-ups.

Plenty of suggestions here for aftermarket speakers, again, just search.... You can even get a subwoofer from Honda or the aftermarket!

Dash Kits are a matter of taste, but the people who have them certainly like them. There are plenty of pictures of the wood grain in the gallery, and if you search, you can find out who makes the best wood/plastic for the Ody.

Don't mean to sound like a broken record, but if you search this forum, usually almost every mod you could do to your Ody has been discussed (at lenght, in detail!).

Some of the "neccessity" accessories are the mud guards, cargo tray, cargo mat, leather steering wheel cover, and wheel locks. If you go to the "Links" section, there are several internet Honda dealers that even have pictures of all the Honda supplied accessories you can get. Personally, I also have the dash mat, sun shield, "square" fog lights, Donnelly electronic mirror with compass and temperature, aftermarket transmission cooler, Pioneer speaker upgreades, and soon will have a second LCD screen on my RES. There are many Ody owners who have done a lot more mods than I have! If you are looking for fanatics, you have come to the right place! Good luck, have fun, enjoy your Ody, and keep asking if you need further help! :D

You can wait until end of the year or sooner and Honda will have somekind of RES system you can add on, there was a post within past few days.

Only if you get Honda CD changer.
Will dash accomodate CD changer and DVD. I would rather not have to put a unit under seat.
Only the 6 CD changers from Honda, if you keep factory head unit, no on DVD.
Any speaker upgrade suggestions which are compatable with stock head unit.
Goto local stores and find 6-1/5" speakers you like, different people have different tasts on speakers and sound coming from them.

If you where going for aftermarket for head unit that has DVD player in it, don't get Honda CD changer, but aftermarket CD changer, but i belive you can not mount the changer in the dash.
Depending on how much you want to spend on your system, i would go aftermarket all the way. If you want to keep it Honda, i would wait until Honda comes out with the new add-on RES setup.
You can do speaker upgrade anytime, like now.:)
