Anyone else get a pretty strong "clunk" that shakes the car when shifting from Park to reverse or Drive?

.
How are putting it in park? Try this and see if it makes a difference: After coming to stop to park, shift to N, set the parking brake, take your foot off the brake and shift to P. When you come back it will come out of park like butter.

Thanks for all the information! I have a 2016 EX-L with about 88,000 miles. I have done drain and fills regularly with DW1. About 6 months ago I did three drain & fills with Valvoline max life instead of DW1. The van definitely shifted harder. I decided to give it some time and see if it would smooth out. After about three months, it did not, so I decided to do a drain and fill. There were metal shavings in the fluid. Quite a few. I’d never had that before. I replaced it with the DW1 (drain & fill X3) and shifting returned to normal, I just did another drain and fill to check. No shavings. Just my experience.
You maybe the first one I read about having an issue with valvoline atf max life. Most users here say they get a crisper shifting but add some lubeguard to mitigate that? Anyway, I never tried it and only used DW1 since 2010. I have used it on my daughters 2014 elantra recently @ 60K interval. 3x drain and fill. No difference from before and after the switch from the old Hyundai atf fluid. All smooth shifting on both fluids.

I agree that mine appears to be an outlier. I actually run MaxLife in my 2004 Honda Pilot, & 2007 Toyota Camry without any problems. For whatever reason, my Odyssey shifted very hard with it, and it didn’t turn out well. Just wanted to share my experience so that others were aware. Once again, I appreciate all the info from you guys!

Older forum but have done 2 D&F on a 2015 odyssey at 58k with MaxLife. It had a D&F at the dealership at 40k. I have about 3k no complaints so far from shifts but nothing crazy really don’t see why would not keep using.
Have you had the transmission software update? I highly recommend it. I will also suggest using a muzzling device as well.

Transmission update not that I know of. Had the van for a little over a year went to the dealership for the 1st few oil changes they were included. I need to do the muzzler. It seems to sell out every time I go look at it.

Keep an eye on this thread for fixes Honda corp knows about and has solutions for:

I didn't have any of the "judder" symptoms until I did install a Muzzler.
I use that guys original dial based Muzzler. It works because I like in Southern California and just left it on the default setting. My ECO light never comes on. But I think if you live where it gets very cold and very hot over the course od a year, them the Advanced model is probably north it.
