Got a quote today from an independent shop that specializes in Honda. New timing belt, water pump, coolant, tension adjuster and serpentine for $1400. What is the going rate in your area? Will call my local Honda stealership tomorrow to see what they quote. I'm in middle TN close to Nashville. thanks

Yeah, what parts? That's important.

$1400 is about right for OEM parts at current pricing IMO. Aisin kit might be able to get that under $1000.

They are following the book rate, which is "reasonable" - basically a whole timing belt job of labor plus parts cost. If you can DIY, you can do it without removing the belt, but it does take a trick or two to avoid removing everything down there.

Rather than go to the 'stealership' Freeman, do some research on independent garage or mechanics in your area. The dealer will give you one quote for the timing belt replacement, but they don't replace all the suggested/recommended components- adding extra for the tensioner and other items they don't normally replace. With 89k you're not due for a timing belt because of mileage, but approaching 10 years you're due based on age and also because the tensioner is leaking. Recommend using OEM components or the Aisin kit. I'm sure you'll find spark plug replacement much more reasonable at an independent.

Just got mine replaced at the dealership in the metro Detroit area. Overall price was ~$1500 total (not including 3% credit card fee!). Price quoted for timing belt replacement, coolant change, water pump replacement and power steering pump belt was about $1200. They were going to check the timing belt tensioner to see if it needed to be replaced and if so would be $250 more (was actually $290 more!), so I insisted they change the tensioner. I asked about the idler and they said they would not change it unless it was broken and was not included in their kit.

I will definitely be looking for an independent shop for the future. Good luck!

We had the timing belt service done at Glenview Automotive in Oakland, Ca. last week on my son's 2015 EX-L. He uses the Aisin kit. Cost $1300, done in 6 hours. Did not include plugs or drive belt.
