Tips for canceling and re-buying Honda Care

We were strong during all of the add-ons, but somehow we caved on the HondaCare - I blame it on exhaustion. They charged us $2550 for 7 years.

I want to cancel, but I have a few questions.
1. Should I have any difficulty canceling? Based on what I've read online, it seems like it's fully refundable for any reason for 60 days. I just want to be ready when the finance guy calls and tries to tell me something different. note: it was rolled into a financing package, but we only got the financing to get a discount. We are planning on paying off the loan as soon as we get the first bit of paperwork from them, so car payments are not part of the equation.
2. If I cancel from one dealer, will I have any difficulty purchasing from another dealer? On one of the sites, it would not give me a quote because the questionnaire asked if the vehicle had ever been covered by another HondaCare policy. I don't want to cancel and then not be able to purchase it cheaper later.
3. Is there any benefit to purchasing it now on a new vehicle or can we wait until we get closer to 36,000 miles? Does it cover something in addition to our new car warranty? It just seems silly to be double covered, but I may be missing something.

Anything else I need to know about canceling or about HondaCare? I'm open to any advice.

1. There will not be any difficulty to cancel the Hondacare. You can do it either through dealer (fill their paperwork) or directly by calling Honda. Honda will ask you to fax or email the cancellation request. Refund will normally go as a principal adjustment against your loan. Calling Honda directly is a quicker option and refund is processed in about 1 week. Dealer may take about a month to get your refund

2. Once the cancellation is confirmed, you can call other dealers (College Hills Honda is a good choice - check their website for the form) for the best quote. After you receive the quote, inform the new dealer that you had a Hondacare agreement before and cancelled it due to high charges

3. I think getting an extended warranty is good and provides you with peace of mind.

Don't beat yourself up about it...the car buying process can be a hassle and some of these guys know when to strike (i.e. you're exhausted). Heck I got taken for a "car alarm" and didn't even realize it as I was exhausted and just ready to be done at that point. At least you can cancel which is great. Best bet is to probably do what pmronline suggested and call Honda directly. I would think they would not prorate since you haven't used any of the benefits, etc.

If you cancel in the grace period you should get a full refund. Any time after that you will get pro-rated since it does include roadside assistance in addition to the extended warranty.

I cancelled mine about a year after buying it and got the refund applied to the principal on my Honda loan. It was easy to cancel, as pmronline said, I faxed in a signed cancellation request to Honda and it was taken care of. I didn't cancel through the dealer so I never heard any grief from the finance guy.

I wasn't aware that you could rebuy it after canceling. Interesting if true.

Usually extended warranties are cheaper when you buy it under a certain amount of time or miles. Makes sense as you will know closer to 36,000 if your vehicle gives you a lot of problems than you do under 100 miles so it's somewhat of a gamble to predict how things will go.

I have done this before. Within a week or so...I just called the dealer and cancelled it. Then dropped by and confirmed it.
The $$ go back to financing org or to you if paid full.
Then I confirmed that they did not process it yet. Because, apparently Hyannis honda (Sean) told me he cannot sell Honda Care if it was issued before.

I spoke with Sean and my coverage hasn't been processed yet. He recommended that I go ahead and activate it through him so that they can't activate it on their end. Of course, this makes me nervous since I worry that I won't be able to cancel the other one if there's some crossover. Ugh.
