towing without trans cooler?

First, just look at the size of your A/T, not counting the TC housing. That little package of gears and wet clutches, no bigger than the space taken up by a 25-lb. sack of dog food, does ALL of the torque & power transmission duties to the driveshafts of your 2.2-ton+ vehicle. A tranny cooler is a good idea, even if you do not tow. It's vital if you do. There's a reason why Honda won't let us manually select one-gear-down from top gear for towing on any Odyssey after the 2001 model year...just that fact alone tells you they're made of papier mache compared to a truck tranny.

Lots of info on this on this forum.

Tru-Cool 4544 is the largest that can be resonably easily installed while not requiring any sort of ATF thermostat. Nobody has reported any "overcooling" effects during east-coast and Canadian winters. Here's a good thread. Aftermarket Cooler Installation Notes.

Search for any thread by watt-man regarding cooling of the power steering fluid return circuit. He has instrumented that system with temp measuring gear. The results were surprising.

***snip*** It sounds like the "in" on the new transmission cooler will be the output from the radiator, and the "out" on the new tranny cooler will hook into the return line for the transmission. So in effect, the cooler will be after the oem built into the radaiator cooler, is this correct?
All correct.
