Transition from Honda DW-1 to Valvoline MaxLife Trans Fluid. OK to do this?

'03 Ody w 232,000 miles and transmission operating normally. I've kept up with my tranny fluid D&Fs. I've used up my on-hand stock of Honda DW-1 fluid. Given the cost of DW-1 is outrageous, I'm wondering if I can use Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle Full-Synthetic ATF for my next, and subsequent, D&Fs. What are your thoughts? Please advise. Many thanks.

Yes. We have been using MaxLife Dex/Merc ATF for many years now in both honda and toyota vehicles. And with Lubegard Red. You will find this discussion in many threads.

Just do it! Valvoline is great ATF. And personally I “overdo” the recommended ATF maintenance. After I got my ATF back to “ruby red” condition with several D&F’s, I now do a D&F with every oil/filter change at approx 5k miles. Why not? So easy! Not sure if you have done these yet, but the most important safeguards for these fragile transmissions are to install a good ATF cooler and filter. I use a little Lubeguard Red too. Bought a bag of aluminum washers for the drain plug too. Bought another bag of alum washers for the oil pan too.

You sure can, although the cost of DW-1 doesn't seem very high to me...you can get it for as cheap as $5 per quart.

OP here. '03 Ody; 232,000 miles; transmission operating normally. I added a Tru-Cool 4452 at 108,000 (124k ago) and a Magnefine R038M at 207,000 (25k ago). I'm planning a D&F followed by some drive time, then a new OEM filter, a new Magnefine filter, and cleaning the CPC AB screens. Based on feedback here, I'm going to go with Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle Full-Synthetic for the first time.
