I have not had problems with it, and heard it was silicone that needed to be avoided to prevent gassing/fog.

Do a google search for goop. It is another commonly found item, just like the #8 machine screws. Can find both at any hardware store.

Ok my only question is when you guys put your headlight assemblies in the oven how are you setting them in there? Do you put them on a cookie sheet or something? I want to see a picture.

I don't have picture. But I put it on a pair of wooden sticks.

I have a large non stick cookie/baking tray which I just turned upside down and set the headlight on. Sorry, I'm not taking the thing off again just to take a photo for you .

Gotcha, but do you set the assembly on the lens or the set it upright or what? I would figure if it was in the over it would somewhat melt what ever plastic it would sit on.

I set mine upright, no melted plastic, not at the temp and short duration I'm baking for. If you're baking at 400 for 10min...then I could imagine the plastic may melt.

Yes I set it upright. The lens is usually polycarbonate which is harder than plastic. I just make sure nothing touches the lens while I cook it. I think it's ok to have the lens sit on the wooden sticks I use but why would I take risk? I sit the back housing on the wood so if something bad happens to the housing, you can't see it when they are on the car.

Since you mentioned.
Be careful when you buy used headlights off of ebay.
Always ask if the headlights rattles. A lot of these are from cars in accidents and a lot of them have broken parts inside. Specially reflectors are broekn very easily. Also, do not believe pictures. It could look like it has very clean lens but not when you actually get them. Many of them has yellow tint or haze.
If the headlight you are buying from old model they will come with lots of rock chips, scratches etc....
Get one from newer model year if possible.
Try to avoid one with broken then repaired tabs. It may not be repaired properly and come off later.
