A quick google search of 90471-PX4-000 (transmission) or 94109-14000 (oil) will show you plenty of "Genuine Honda" fakes. I just have to figure out how to buy a pack of them that are either genuine Honda parts or another brand with the same dimensions as OE and not spend a ridiculous amount. Can't trust Amazon, and eBay is laughable at this point. RockAuto sells a 50 pack for $13 and it sounds like the best option until you get to the shipping. For 4 oil plug washers and 50 transmission plug washers, which is the minimum you could buy for each, minus a 5% discount code the total OTD is $32.38 I'm spending how much?

I would always start off searching for the Honda p/n. You get people selling things they are at least clearly saying are direct replacements for the part you are seeking.
Unfortunately, these sellers do use the Honda OE part numbers. And they are most definitely not that part.

I mean, for a crush washer, I wouldn't be concerned about buying a genuine Honda part. Just as long as it fits.

I see no reason whatsoever to buy these OEM from the dealer. I thought it was a shame that my "trusted" mechanics never even considered replacing either the oil or the ATF drain plug washers. So I now do it myself. My oil plug washer had totally mushroomed out around the edges. After dozens of uses, those old washers are useless and the mechanics then start cranking on the drain plugs to stop leaks, which is why the female threads on the aluminum oil pan or transmission housing may strip out. That's no fun at all -- all to cheap out on a 45cent washer!

Including standard shipping, Bernardi sells 6 packs of Honda oil filters for $45US and they throw in 6 crush washers for free. This is the cheapest bulk deal I can find on the net, and the free crush washers make it worth it when you consider nobody will ship a single washer for less than ten bucks.

Too bad they don't throw in transmission washers with fluids!

I got my oil drain washers from Rockauto, bundling with some other parts to avoid shipping.

For oil filter, I use a Fram Ultra XG3593A from a 6-pack I bought off Ebay. I try to replace it every other oil change. :)

So having had my Ody for just ~2 months, I did an oil change and wow is that filter tiny (Fram on there before and after). So, so small, it is smaller than the filter on my A-H Sprite that is just for a low hp 1100cc motor. I know on my B5 Passat, there are both small and large filters, depending upon the manufacturer (K&N have a larger filter, about 50% larger in capacity as an example).

Surely there is a larger capacity filter available for the 3.5L Honda motor?

The Fram 3593 that I use is slightly larger diameter, but shorter than the 7317 that is recommended for the Odyssey.

Fram 3985 is even bigger, but I haven't personally used that one. I believe they all have similar bypass pressure. The 3985 has quite a bit bigger gasket, so I can't be sure it's compatible.

Agree it looks small, but that does not make it undersized.

Most of these engines live to outlast the rest of the car.

My 2009 EX is due for a 3x drain and fill so I'd like to take it as seriously as possible. Is there a specific brand of fluid you guys swear by? I usually walk into these situations blindly and buy whatever I find at the parts store. I've never had an ill outcome this way but...it's the Dadmobile.

And then I wondered, is there an oil and filter everyone swears by as well? Since the Odyssey and my wife's Fit drink the same oil and wear the same filter, I'd like to just buy them in bulk so I thought I'd poke the hive for ideas. I just bought new oil drain plugs and a 20 pack of crush washers anyway.
Amsoil engine oil- filter mobil 1 and wix- transmission fluid I use oem Honda

Oil is the lifeblood of the engine. There is no benefit to a small oil filter vs a large one unless there is a space issue. There is certainly room for a larger capacity one. The byproducts of burning gasoline (the same as all gas engines) + the small particles that pass the air filter (the same small particles that pass all other filters) + the standard breakdown of oil due to wear and heat all need filtering capacity, that filter is just too small for extended fill rates that are recommended by Honda. Sure the motor will last, but will it be in great condition? There is no such thing as too good a filter, larger capacity permits better filtration with lower pressure drop for longer before bypass. I have never seen such a small filter for a motor of this capacity.

Just as an aside, personally I am a fan of the Maxlife ATF and of Mobil 1 oil, hard to go wrong with either.

I didn't initially realize the filter for the Honda 3.5L was considered "small". It's slightly larger than the filter used on my 2.2L 4-cylinder Toyota Camry. I guess the Camry's filter is tiny.

Then I bought an oil filter for my Mazda CX-9, 3.7L. Holy crap, that filter is big.

I think if oil filters were a problem with the J35 we'd know by now. It's been around for 22 years now. Tried and true engine design.

I bought my oil drain plug washers from the same seller. Same product brand as well. That's why I didn't trust those.
You don't trust them because they came from the same seller? Don't understand that. The Amazon seller is Impresa Products. Both washers fit perfectly, totally compatible with Honda OE washers.

I can understand the reluctance to allow any substitutes for critical engine parts, but here we are talking about a simple stamped aluminum washer. If you are concerned about surface finish, do this simple trick -- place fine (min. 220 grit) sandpaper on a super flat surface. Pressing down lightly with the washer, make a few "figure eights" on both sides. You'll see fine scratch marks - perfect for sealing oil or ATF plugs.

Unfortunately, these sellers do use the Honda OE part numbers. And they are most definitely not that part.
I have absolutely no problem with a seller who uses the Honda p/n as a reference/identifier, clearly states the product is an aftermarket replacement for the Honda part, and prices it accordingly. Transparency and honesty makes them winners. To my way of thinking.

I've been changing my own oil for 54 years, and, not that it is right, but I think I have changed the crush washer maybe five times. I've never had a drip/leak issue, or I would have gotten crush washers and changed them.
I hear you about the "54 years." Since Covid struck, I started doing more of my own auto repairs again.
My oil crush washer was totally extruded out both the ID and the OD. It had become almost paper thin. I was shocked that my regular mechanic would allow the crush washer to become useless like that. So it's no wonder that they crank them down so tight and eventually can strip out the oil pan threads. But don't think they will replace the oil pan on their dime, if they won't even replace a 50 cent washer.

The oem washer fits perfectly around the drain plug, but this is the washer that arrived.

Sold by Impresa Products under the branding of "Mission Automotive" and listed as PN 94109-14000. Is it right to use the part number for a product that does not meet the specs of the part? Why would I buy another part from them if the first one was not a substitute for oem?

It's not the surface finish that concerns me. I'm only concerned about the quality of the seal. I don't know if I want to have to keep peeking under my vehicles to see if the new sized washers are holding. Especially when I get to the drain and fills.

concerned about the quality of the seal
Yes the seal, and also distortion from the force of the bolt head concentrated in half the intended area on the case.

I would reuse an OEM washer before I would use that.
