Sadly in the process of buying a new car my daughter realized her present ride ~ a 1995 Land Rover Discovery that resembles something out of Jurassic Park ~ was going to be replaced. Nigel as he is named is one of the family. A stately yet rugged chap who's always on the ready to take us on the next adventure. Although we are keeping Nigel we (me especially) are all a bit forlorn over his retirement so to brighten up the mood I thought now would be a good time to name our newly acquired vehicle ~ a 2006 Ody Touring Black/Black. So over breakfast last weekend in a not too ceremonious manner I gave my 4 yr old daughter Gisella the honour of naming the newest member of our family. Without a moment's hesitation she jumped out of her chair, hands flung over her head and screamed 'THE SQUID!'. I burst out laughing and gave her a big hug for I could think of no better name for this dark illusive creature...

So what's your Ody's name? And who named her/him?

My kids came up with...

Dora (the explorer). My son wanted to name it lightning and my daughters chose Dora. I personally don't care, but my wife went ahead and got a Dora sticker to put in the rear side window. So "Dora" is it's official name now, sigh.

Sense there is a H on the Hood, rear hatch and horn button, it is either called His or Hers, depending on who is driving.....

But we both agree on one thing to call it....... EXPENSIVE.

WW's nickname will be edited! :D

I call mine, "your car." As in, "Honey, can I drive ... your car?"

My boys still vote for taking my truck. Even the 1 year old has a grin from ear to ear when I fire it up with just a straight pipe.

Personally, I only like the van because its a) safe, b) very versatile for my wife, c) it reduces the chaos as much as possible with 3 boys (i.e. RES).

If I had my druthers, my wife would be driving an H1.

I have a couple since 4 of my neigbors have bought one in the past week after buying mine. Hagning with the Jones is the the name of my community of six houses. One person gets a pool, we all got a pool. And sadly I fall right into sometimes. Ow well.

Ours - H8N-WORK Mobilee (those are our plates so the van became that name)

neighbors - Short Bus (how original)
Looser Cruiser (this cracks me up)
Silver Bullet (another real original)
Hank (I have yet to figure it out but that is what they call it)

What is your voices name? Ours is Betty. Not idea again but that is her name.

Nickname for your Odyssey?

Most of our cars have garnered a moniker, I named our Odyssey "Barney" not after the purple dinasour but after the affectionate nickname given to the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft flown by the USAF. I have spent some time on the C-17 and it reminds me of the minivan...smooth, powerful, and can haul just about anything. It is high-tech as is the Odyssey, and when I drive it the Honda feel like I am flying a jet.

Sometimes my son jokes that I named the Odyssey after the drunk character in The Simpsons...

Although it sounds like something I would do, the Simpsons' Barney doesn't quite project the image I think of when I see my Odyssey!

So that's my story, what's yours?

Cheers! M2

Da Pangtze
("dah-pah-nnng-tsuh")

Roughly translates as Big Fatty. It comes from a nickname my friend's mom gave to me, which was Xiao Pangtze (Little Fatty...I've aways been on the chubby side). It seemed fitting for my Odyssey, especially after coming from an Integra.

C'mon now, don't be afraid to use the SEARCH button. We already have a thread for that.
**merged**

Newb to this forum (pretty fluent with forums etc.) - I imagined there would be a nickname thread - and was glad to see this one pop up.

Thanks for the merge - but - I can't find the one you mention that you merged it with.

Maybe provide the link.

A thousand pardons - I thought maybe there was a much longer thread with nicknames.

We're toying with Marge as a nick name - we got the blue one, and it's big.

Doing some testing of some dev I was doing last week I called the first widget "Homer's Odyssey" - and then the next came natrually:
Lisa's Pilot
Barts CRV
Maggies Escort
Moe's Civic
Sideshow's Ridgline

Our depends on which voice the Nav is programmed to... I changed it to the male voice the other day. I think I like that better - never have enjoyed a woman telling me what to do.

I think we'll now call the Odyssey KITT. Maybe mount an LED bar on the front grill that marquees left to right to left.
