Which pad and rotor kit to buy?

I have a 2013 Odyssey - 220,000 miles on it. Needs a brake pad and rotor job. Going to do it myself - I'm looking at RockAuto and there's dozens of options - what should I go with? Coated? Drilled and slotted or not? Is there a consensus on decent ones to buy?

you cant go wrong with raybestos element3 stuff.
I put the Element3 pads and coated rotors on all 4 corners last year at the same time. Bedded them properly, and they still have good response and smoothness. I’m going to put them on all 4 corners of my Accord soon.

I had drilled/slotted rotors since 2015 until recently when i replaced them with Wagner coated rotors all the way around (Rockauto clearance deal). The drilled/slotted rotors lasted about 8 years but I do not recommend them; they were noisy and the brakes were very noticeable from the very beginning, whereas the new Wagners are silent and smooth. The Raybestos EHT pads have been great for 5ish years and still have lots of life left; I therefore vote for these pads.

Also, Honda changed the rotor design in 2015 to include vents along the rotor hat. Aftermarket use the same vented design for 2015+, and these rotors fit the 2011-2014 Odys just fine. IMO it is worth considering these from rockauto (my front rotors are 2015 and rear are the "correct" 2012).

Thanks for the tips - I think I'm going to go with the Raybestos Element3 parts on all 4 from RockAuto. I haven't attempted this before but I've got a couple of good videos to follow. Just need to also get some of the lubricants and brake cleaner, wire brush, etc.. probably an impact driver for the rotor screw too? I'm slow going but hoping I can get all 4 done in one day.. ! :ROFLMAO:

One thing to note, don't try to remove the rotor screw with a Phillips bit, it is a JIS bit (can't remember what size though). A Phillips bit will likely strip the screw. However, I've stripped them before and ultimately just drilled them out. They serve no real purpose other than holding the caliper on temporarily. Once the brakes are reinstalled, the lug nuts and wheels hold the caliper on.

Also, while you are at it, how is your parking brake? Does it go all the way to the floor? Try parking on a steep hill and check it. Now is the perfect time to adjust it. Here is a video that shows the process. Super simple if you are already back there:

I just replaced the brakes (front and rear) on my 2014 Odyssey back in September. I'm into parts just over 200 bucks. My local O'Reilley charges $25 each to turn rotors so I figured I'd be ahead in time and money by buying these new ones.

I really like the drilled and slotted rotors. They cool much better which helps the rotors to not warp from getting too hot.

Here's what I bought:

Drilled and slotted rotors:
$145.00

Front pads:
$31.96

Rear pads:
$36.28

In my experience, my car went through 5 sets or front rotors in its 120k miles, they all suck. Expect them to have short lives and replace with what ever decent brand is available at a reasonable price. The only positive thing is that swapping rotors and brake pads is pretty easy. I can swap out rotors and pads in less than an hour per corner. I only had to replace the rear rotors and pads once.

I am also running the Raybestos element3 set on all 4 corners and so far, so good for about 25,000 miles. I have maintained brakes on a lot of vehicles in my time, though, and the 4th generation Odyssey is right up there with the best of them at warping rotors, so I keep waiting for the other foot to drop on these element3 rotors, but so far they've been the best I have used for this application.

Try the Powerstop brand on Rock Auto. The coating really does last and looks new even years after installation. The rotors I last installed on my 08 are now over two years old. The coating is holding up VERY well and there is no warpage. I drive a mix of city and highway and have maybe 30k miles on these and recommed to everyone.
