Try plugging it in to a TV in your house and see what the resolution of the stick is. It might be trying to display 4K or some other resolution that isn’t compatible with your van.

 

As I know the Minivan system just a basic one, so I just bought the basic and cheap FireTv stick for use .....

 

I tried both 720p and 1080p setting but still not work in ody hdmi

I don’t personally on my van. Figured I’d give that troubleshooting a shot.

If it’s the basic cheap fire stick, it might need power from a USB cable. Do you have it plugged into a USB cable as well as HDMI?

 

Sure I connect everything but the screen just flash and shown no signal when start up

 

I use one in my touring. You have to plug the USB into Apple play USB port to power the fire stick. That worked for me.

 

Finally, I done with an external power supply!! Or usb plug in from Airplay usb port!! Other in-car USB ports cannot turn this FireTV stick on!! Thank you for your info

yup. should work with any port. i don't know why it only works with the carplay port.

 

The FireStick uses a 16W charger whose input is 2.5Amps. The regular USB ports in the van do not support that, except the one in the center console (cubby).

both usb port in the center console stated 2.5 amps. so it should work with either one. but only works on the right one (andriod auto port). I was confused initially and could not get it to work initially. I cannot use andriod auto + fire stick

 

Sometimes it is not enough to push more power through the USB. I think the 2.5A ports in the van support like 12W or something. Since the Fire Stick needs at least 16W, it could be a reason why it does not power up.
I was running a rear facing dash back on the back window in my Ridgeline and I used to get these weird issues with it, when plugging into a USB with 1.0A caused some weird issues. Running it out of a 3.0A socket fixed it and it is a 15W power socket.

 

I will try with the power socket in the front. that may free up my Andriod Auto port.

 

This is what I did when I figured the USB ports weren’t powerful enough (didn’t try the Apple CarPlay port though). It works perfectly fine with the 12v power socket.

 

This is a known hardware issue specific to the non-4K Firestick - it does not draw enough current from the USB port, even though it needs only 1A or so. The 4K Firestick works just fine in my van. It is overkill to use a 4K stick with a 1024x600 screen, but it is often on sale for just $35.

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but I am assuming to use the Firestick you need the car's wifi hotspot? Or are you using your own phone as a hotspot?

 

I was using it with my phone wifi. I switched to car hotspot after I activated it with AT&T. $10 a month since I am a current AT&T customer. both works well.
