I was told after the repair didn't work out that there is currently no option besides OEM for the glass on the 2018 Odyssey due to the clip/mount for the LKAS hardware. Safelite did the recalibration in their shop.
Is Safelite the only one that all insurance company use? It sounds like that they are reliable if they did the recalibration.

im curious about this too...I have a 2018 EX-L, windshield split right down the middle...I have allstate and their site links to appointment setter with Safelite...I was setting it up for them to come to me and got the warning pop-up that the camera would need to be re-calibrated at the dealership...so I backed up and picked the bring it to them option and still got the same message but the appt was a week sooner and based on this thread, i feel like I at least have a chance that they can calibrate it for me :)

Dealer is replacing mine because of a 6 inch stress crack that came out of nowhere. However the windshield is back ordered with Honda Canada. Service manager told me the after market products will not accommodate the sensors on my 2018 Touring (U.S. Elite). Whether he’s right or wrong I’m happy to wait for the Honda product

OEM vs non OEM

I have a 2016 Touring model. My windshield cracked from the edge to the center and needs full replacement. I initially contacted the dealer from which I purchased the van and they told me that they have has issues with non-factory windshields based upon my year and model. Unsure if that was just a sales pitch, but a 2nd dealer told me the same. Safelite told me that the non OEM windshield is made with the same specifications and that purchasing the OEM version is just buying the name. The last thing I want is for there to be issues if I go with the cheaper knock off. Anyone else get told a similar comment about the OEM glass? Thoughts?

There are no government regulations that apply to how an aftermarket windshield is made. So the only way to ensure that a replacement windshield provides the same level of safety as the original is to replace it with OEM. You may get the same from an aftermarket windshield, but you don't know. Chances are, you won't. Some aftermarket windshields in Canada cost just 20% of OEM. You get what you pay for.

Some aftermarket windshields used to be so far off in size that they just would not go in. I hear they are better now, but something to keep in mind.

Lastly, if your 2016 has a camera mounted on the windshield, recalibration after windshield replacement is crucial. Not all aftermarket glass places can do this. Ask in advance.

Be careful with going through your insurance for a "glass" claim. Last time I did that, my rates went up when I had to renew because they did not differentiate between a glass claim and a body damage claim.

Honda uses Pilkington or PGW (formerly PPG) glass.

I also appear to have a stress crack, though 8+ inches. Is this covered under warranty?

If the vehicle is under warranty and the windshield cracked without any visible signs of impact from a stone or other foreign object it might be covered under the warranty.

I have an Infiniti G35 and the front windshield cracked, no visible sign of impact when the car was under the new car warranty. Dealer replaced it, no charge.

My dealer replaced the windshield on my 2018 Canadian Touring with some 25000 miles on tge vehicle as no sign oof rock damage. And given the camera and heated windshield this wasnt a place for an aftermarket product Use original and expect to require a camera realignment after the installation..

We replace our 2018 odyssey touring front windshield at Safelite and they use OEM windshield from Honda total cost-plus tax is $1,086.89 all cover with insurance. They also have too recalibrate the front camera.
Have you tried testing the RDM (Road Departure Mitigation) and LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist) to see if the calibration was perfect?

This is seriously a valid question.

There was a case in Canada earlier this year where a glass company replaced the windshield on a new Ody but did not align the camera. (The fine print on the invoice instructed the owner to have it done by Honda. Who reads the fine print?!!) Subsequently, the van went into emergency braking when driving in multi-lane traffic. The van's safety systems had become a hazard.
