I've gotten pretty attached to my 00 Ody with 180k and am now seeing rust just below the gas cap opening on the left outer panel. Has anyone removed and replaced the Left Rear outer quarter panel? I am just wonder how big of a project it is. Last year I removed/replaced the tail gate as the old one was getting pretty rusty also. Fortunately there are a few Ody's getting parted out and if I am lucky, I can find the panels fairly cheap in the correct color. Thanks in advance.

Nevermind... I was just able to get into the body repair manual link (I've tried unsuccessfully at least a dozen times before) and found out that it is not a replaceable part, without cutting and welding. Don't love my ody that much. Back to the putty, sander and matching paint. Problem is it is rusting from the inside out.

Anyone have any luck treating or fixing the rust on the bottom of the tailgate door? Mine is rapidly getting worse. Also the paint on the top of the rear bumper cover is starting to peel off a lot. Strange, since it is a plastic cover, I believe.

Mine doesn't have rust or bubbling in that spot, looks like the same color paint though. I've used POR-15 around the wheel wells and it has really limited the rust. I didn't even fill and paint it, just never got back to it. One thing to know, the stuff does not last after opening the can so best to buy the smallest kit. I was able to drill through a thick layer to get to some at the bottom of the can that was not yet hardened up.

Thanks for the reply. The bottom of my Driver's door is doing the same thing, unfortunately. The drain holes seem to be fine.
Not sure its worth fixing, but if I can slow it way down, it will look better than duct tape. :ahh:

PS: I did look at the Jay Leno bit on using POR-15. Sounds like you have to remove the rust, treat it with their phosphoric acid treatment, then apply the POR-15 and then paint it because the polyurethane degrades in the sunlight.
