I recently purchased a new 2013 Honda Odyssey EX, and the dealer could not locate the card with the radio serial number and security code. I brought the car in today so that they could try to retrieve the code with the VIN and radio serial number, and was told that in this year Honda stopped using radio codes on the Odyssey.

I just got off the phone with Honda Customer Relations, and was told that there is no longer need for a code.

Has anybody bought a 2013 Odyssey and got the card with the radio serial number and code?

Thanks!

Answer here:

Audio anti-theft code information on 2013 Odyssey:

Honda has been introducing a new audio anti-theft protection system that doesn't require you to enter an anti-theft code. When the Anti-Theft System screen appears on the display; press and hold the audio unit power button for about 2 seconds to allow the PCM to verify that the vehicle's VIN and the VIN saved in the audio unit match. You'll hear a long beep when the audio unit exits the anti-theft mode. Release the power button.

Anti-theft code card and stickers are no longer included with the 2013 Odyssey.

Instructions are also found in the 2013 Honda Odyssey owner's manual:

I just found out about this over the weekend when I brought the van to the dealer where I got the van to ask for the codes. The tech told me as in post #3...but he does not know about the NAVI..so he went into diagnostic mode or service menu to get the serial # for the NAVI and then got the code from the computer..and told me to keep it just in case.

This is good to know. We got a 2013 Odyssey EX-L last weekend and looked through all the docs I went home with but just couldn't find the small card with the radio code. I emailed the sales guy but he never replied to me (of course he doesn't know me anymore after the sale :) ). I also tried the steps in one of the posting here to press 1 and 6 at the same time but the radio does not show any numbers. Instead it shows "Diags."

I have the same problem with my 2010 Odyssey. Did you ever find a solution?

There were no stickers or card in my Touring Elite that I picked up last week. My manual says they should still exist. While I was on the phone with the salesperson he said the codes should be on a glovebox sticker and on the pre-delivery checklist. They were in neither place. But it wouldn't surprise me if he was out of date with his knowledge database...

It's interesting how these dealers have sold many of these 2013 vans, yet they don't have a clue about the radio code. My dealer is still going back and forth with the radio code issue w/o giving me a definitive answer about whether there is a code or not. I guess Honda is also to blame since they have not updated the owner's manual.

Is it mean, we can't buy a used OEM/Replacement from fleabay or Craigslist? If the OEM deck/CD/dvd slot went dead over the years.....

I'm thinking ahead, just in case down the road.

I think nomorenow was asking if a replacement radio can be re-programmed with the receiving van's VIN? Agree that it's hardly a target for thieves. I suppose eventually 2013 used units could appear from wrecks or upgrades.

You will need a code if you replace the radio. It is based on the radio used though. You give the dealer the serial number of the radio and they give you the code. When you put in the new radio and hit the on button, the top screen will prompt you to enter the code. I am going through this now on a 2013 EXL with RES. It is easiest to write down the serial number from the sticker on the radio, but you can retrieve it electronically I believe (I did not do this process since I wrote down the SN).

Unfortunately the used radio I bought went up in smoke as soon as it was connected, so I got no further than where it says to enter the code. What a pain.

Aha. I actually did a search before posting. I too was thinking about the radio code for my 2014 touring that I got last week. The first person I called asked me for the serial which I couldn't find. My salesman actually am not sure!!!! I finally did get in touch with another lady in service and she mentioned honda stopped using the radio code on my car.

Btw I am assuming there is no code for the navi right?

Yay. See. Its not that hard. You not only searched but posted in an already existing thread. Keep that up. :)

Dont know about navi. For radio, if car lost battery, press and hold audio on button for 3 or 5 seconds i dont remember exactly. The radio will talk to main computer to check vin number and disarm the lock. New radio now must be preprogramed to work on only the Vin Number stored. It wont work with other cars unless you have honda factory tool to program in new vin numbers. Take note if your radio ever breaks and trying to find a replacement on eBay. I supose honda dealers should have this tool. There might be future hacks but now this is how codeless radio work.

here's the exact instruction to unlock radio from honda Service Bulletin 13-049

Unlock the Audio Unit
After installing the No. 15 and No. 16 fuses, turn the
ignition to ON (II). Press the audio volume/power knob
once to turn the audio unit on.
When the enter code screen is displayed, press and
hold the volume/power knob for about 2 seconds,
release the knob when the long beep sounds.

Just bought a 2016 and it didn't come with the little card with the code. Dealer had no idea.

Looks like Honda does not want us upgrading the radios in the lower trim models with craigslist/ebay sourced radios from higher trims.

Looks like such replacement will require a visit to the dealer to program the receiving vehicle's VIN number into the radio for it to work.

There really isn't a way to use a NAV radio in a plain EX or EX-L anyway. Vans with those units have a completely different wiring harness. If one had an LX & wanted to upgrade the audio, an aftermarket install piece would be a better idea anyway.
