2014 Odyssey EX-L: driver side mirror vibration on highway

I am looking into purchasing a used 2014 Odyssey EX-L with 53k miles. I test drove it, and noticed that on the highway, the driver side mirror vibrates. It looks like the wind is making it shake, and it appears to be because the mirror glass itself has a lot of play in it, though the automatic adjustment still works. When stopped, I noticed that if I push the glass with my finger, it has some play, but on the passenger side it is much more rigid.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I did not notice signs of impact on the mirror. Does this require a full mirror replacement, or is there a way to take it apart and repair it? The mirror housing seems to be fine and mounted firmly.

Most likely there is an internal defect causing this, so either ask the seller to replace it or factor in the cost of doing it to the purchase price.

I am looking at parts for this mirror from cheaperhondaparts.com.

It looks like the whole mirror assembly is $254, but you can also buy the Actuator Sub-Assembly for $38. Would that part fix the problem?

I've noticed this in my 2014 as well. It's not bad but it's definitely noticeable. I traded in a 2011 Mazda CX-9 that had it even worse and they actually had a TSB out for the issue and improved it with additional supportive material to steady the entire mirror assembly against the door frame. So the Odyssey actually isn't that bad but it's not smooth like my other cars.

Interesting, dsc888. Does your passenger side mirror appear much firmer than driver's side? I wonder if this is a common issue, or something that comes loose over time. I was surprised not to find any other complaints about this issue, but maybe it is only present in 2014-2017 model years.

I did not notice the issue until I got above 50mph on the highway. It's not a high frequency shake like from an engine rattle, but a much lower frequency shaking that appears to be caused by wind buffeting. Very noticeable at 70mph.

It definitely doesn't happen at city speeds so I also blame it on wind buffeting it. It's not noticeable on the passenger side due to the distance from the driver's seat. You have to have someone drive and sit in the passenger seat to note if it also shakes. Also the convex nature of the passenger mirror also hides the vibration a bit more. The driver's side mirrors is flat except at the most outer portion where it is curved to help with blind spots if you don't aim your mirror correctly to eliminate them.

All,

My 2012 Touring drivers mirror does the same thing. When parked I checked rigidness of the drivers mirror. It seems to have just as much stiffness as the passenger. the mirror assembly within the housing seems stiff while parked but during highway speeds it must be just loose enough that you can see the mirror wiggling while driving down the highway. So, is it the housing or the mirror attachment within the housing?

I would love to figure it out and get rid of the shakes.
